First question on the second Bullseye on Challenge tonight was about Nicolas Parsons.

I note that BBC FOUR have shown his excellent documentary 'The Incredible Story of Marie Antoinette's Watch' this evening in tribute. Do take it in if you've not seen it. It's already on the iPlayer.

The last series was broadcast in February-March 2019 and they were due to record another in June-July but it was cancelled as he had a "bad back".

The summer series did go out over August - September. Giles stepped in for an Edinburgh episode where Nicholas had gone home early from the festival because of his back.

I couldn't see it listed on the BBC website so assumed it didn't happen, thanks for clarifying.

Nicholas was a guest on Richard Herring’s Leicester Square Theatre Podcast (RHLSTP!) last year shortly before Edinburgh and he was on absolute top form:

Olivia de Havilland is also a Dame.

One of the questions in the first round of House of Games was about Just a Minute as well.

He must have been among the last - if not the last - TV entertainers from the 1950s still with us. What a career.

Still a few that well pre-date even the 1950's, albeit not exclusively TV. We have a triple of 103 year olds still with us, Kirk Douglas , Dame Olivia de Havilland and Dame Vera Lynn soon to be 103 in a few weeks. One, if not all of them will surely be in the news themselves very soon you'd have to imagine.

Well despite the great age of Kirk Douglas I didn't expect my words of last week to be realised quite so rapidly.

Unfortunately nobody and nothing lives forever. Some just live to a ripe old age of 103.

Ruthie Tompson, who started as an animator at Disney, is still around and will be 110 in the summer. She worked for Disney all her life throughout the golden era.
