If anyone's interested here's what (IMO) inspired the Sky News temporary look:

That's the Sky News 'Answer The Question' theme tune. It was one of their political programmes until all feature programming was stupidly axed. Had a lovely desk too.

I've always been more keen on music rather than the actual look of the idents themselves.

Calendar sounds fantastic at the moment, as does North East Tonight. I'm not entirely convinced about Granada Reports, sounds a bit thin.
BBT, what's wrong with London Tonight?! I think their current batch of music is great, although admittedly not as good as the 1993 variant.

I find that American networks generally have better music than the ones over here.
CNN, NBC and Fox all had fantastic music for the US election, last year. If anyone is interested in hearing it then be assured I have plenty of it!
In comparison, the music over here sounds a bit wishy washy and not substantial. There's an argument for sounding modern and up-to-date but sometimes some of the more classical and generally noisier themes work a lot better, certainly in the USA, where the presentation is a lot more... 'shiny'.

Finally, ones that sound great but look awful. The Sky Sports Centre music is excellent, with little commentaries in it, I have too if anyone wants it Smile And CNN World Report (old version), that sounded excellent but looked like something from the 80's. The new theme is a bit jingly-jangly with lots of bells and other... things.

Music I like in no particular order :

BBC Breakfast Time (original)
BBC Sixty Minutes
BBC Nine O'Clock News (with the flying fish fingers)
BBC Spotlight (lighthouse era)

All quite over the top - but good fun. The headline sequences and titles on the last 3 were really good - the Nine O'Clock News studio was integrated really well with the flying fish-fingers and starry sky.

But for the cheesiest music ever used on a 'news programme' look no further than the 1995 Look East Guy Michelmore Christmas re-mix... The titles even had snowflakes added (oh how I remember those aston snowflakes), and the set gained snow peaked mountains for the opening and the second half.

TV Ark

Has them - go to BBC, then East, then News.

There is the 'Look East Christmas (1995)' - this is an opening sequence with normal music but snowflake titles),
and 'Look East Christmas End Titles (1995)' - Christmas re-mix music with Christmas lights from the region.

(You can't do that with corporate music!! Maybe this is a good thing!)

Thanks Tom! You've reminded me how great that Sky News at Ten theme was. Shame there isn't any variation to the theme now. The music is excellent IMHO and they could really make something good out of it - but they won't. Come on Sky!
