Well watching the News at Ten repeat, London Tonight seems to have broadcast without a hitch

Granada cut it but ITV1 Wales stayed with the report.

Also, re: News at Ten. Are all the "And Finally" items now shown before the regional news?

Happened on today's lunchtime news too - there was a 2-way with Uri Geller outside David Blaine's stunt site and Katie was desperately trying to shut him up before a rushed "and now the regional news". Meridian had a horrible echo for a second. It just looked poor. That'll teach 'em for having an outside broadcast at the end of the programme anyway!

Somtimes when opting out, you'll be left the the ITV News presenter sitting there shuffling their scripts for 15 seconds and then the regions will opt out - you'd think if a director is sitting there and watching that they'd use their common sense and opt out a bit earlier.

But it's the pres director, not the regional news director who handles the opt, unlike at the BBC where the regional news studio opts itself into circuit. I would guess pres won't cut to the studio early in case they're not ready, they'd prefer it to look as if ITN finished early and have them look stupid rather than cut to a regional studio which isn't expecting to be on-air yet and have the region look stupid?

Quite surprised that YTV managed to get a trailer in to fill though, I thought the automation system was quite rigid and anything not planned other than an ITV1 caption was almost impossible?

I understand what you mean - make it look like its ITNs fault.

But dont most people view ITV1 as one complete channel and so when a cock - up happens it is just seen as an ITV mess up as opposed to a ITN/regional mistake.

We are all aware of what happens to make regional and national fit together but for example my Auntie Mary hasnt a clue.

Yes she knows that Calendar comes from leeds and ITN comes from London but that is as far as it goes - she will not think about Central/Granada etc.

Having seen Central cut-in & finish early, I switched to the itv News Channel and London Tonight finished on cue with a smooth handover to Trevor. So I presume that's what happened on itv in London.

Uri Geller was probably claiming credit for last night's cut-off. I just can't stand the way he always claims credit for things after they happen - tell us before and we might just believe you (not!).

Katie Derham said "Erm Uri we'll have to leave it there, I'll be back in a moment" and waved her hand to the regions!

So, is there such a thing as network feedback with ITV?, where regions with no transmission stuff, such as Border could wait until told rather than opting at a set time

It happened on Central aswell. The David Blaine report cut to the Central news studio, The presenter was watching the big screen at the time, then she realised she was on and started the bulletin. At the end they cut to a News at Ten screen which had the logo and the spinning wire globe. Then after a while it cut to Trevor who was reading his scripts, then Trev started reading the headlines and all went smoothly after that.

There was no problem on Scottish Everything ran as planned. As has been mentioned, they have their own dedicated broadcast centre and don't use automation at this time.

I don't know about yesterday's Lunchtime News but Thursday's News at Ten was perfect for the London region.
