Since when has News at Ten included regional news in the middle? I thought they gave that up after the election? But lo and behold, they've just done exactly that, and I'm watching Granada News right now.

They do this if News at Ten is on later than Ten. So that you don't have to wait till nearly midnight for your regional news.

Oh, I thought they still showed regional news after NaT. Incidentally, don't UTV always show regional news after NaT at 10.20 (usually!)?

No, when News at Ten is on at 10, you get another programme on at 10.20pm and the regional news comes on at 11:20pm, usually.

Sorry, I've just read what I put and I said it wrong. I meant to say that about when ITV News at Ten is on later. I know that regional news is usually on at 11.20, but is it at that time on UTV is what I was going on about. I saw some listings the other day and where Granada News was on at 11.20 but UTV had regional news at 10.20. Is this usual?

When they went to the regions or 'the news in your area' they didn't use a sting, rather tacky me thought!
Also, 'news in your area' - is this so BBC won't say they're copying by having News in your region? It sounds horrible, 'area'.
Kirsty Young in my opinion has a hypnotic voice.

Well, wasn't the whole idea copied from the BBC? Or did ITV Lunchtime news do it before the BBC @ Ten?

To answer the question about UTV Live, no, this is not usual, although if UTV were running a local programme after News at Ten (possibly the GAA show End to End in this case, or perhaps also Insight or the Holy Ground) they may well show the late UTV Live first.

And yes, the BBC were first to do this. Way back in Nationwide, I think, although in the modern era the Six O'Clock News in 1999 was first to resurect the practice.

The first region within national was the headlines in the Six when they relaunched. The Ten started having it's regional news within the programme when it launched (or the Nine was moved) in October 2000.

I most certainly DON'T think that the ITV should do like the Beeb and roll out a generic look similar to the national news across the regional programmes.

HOWEVER, as the regional programmes all look nothing like the ITN programmes, the 'regionl within national' scenario jolts somewhat on ITV. Whereas on the Beeb it feels like a fairly smooth transition, the regional programmes really don't sit very comfortably within the ITN shows at all.

So, either the ITV regions should go generic (PLEASE, NO, ANYTHING BUT THAT!) or the regional shows move back to being outside and separate from the ITN programmes(sensible move).

As an afterthought, should ITN/ITV move the ITV National weather to being within the news (like on BBC)?

The ITV News at Ten is just a mess! Sometimes it's on at 10, sometimes it isn't. Sometimes the regional news is during the programme, other times it's on after, and other times it's on in the middle of the night (well, nearly).

Actually I think a generic look for the ITV regional news programmes would be good. It works for the BBC. They wouldn't be all identical though - we want to keep some sort of regional identity. Anyone want to have a go at designing a generic look for regional ITV news?

The ITV regional news could NEVER go 'corporate', like the BBC.
Unlike the Beeb, which is ONE, ITV is many, with the regional & national news being made by different companies.
