Breakfast still uses robotic cameras - not sure about the national ones - but it would make sense, as they don't move much.

news presenters are trained to do that sort of thing!?

I doubt very much it is done by the presenters!

Controlled from the gallery maybe - but I think the one or two people in the main N6 studio do the cameras as when they zoom in they look to automated to be a real cameraman! - maybe done with a joystick type thing?!

Cameras on One/Six/Ten are all remote controlled for pan/tilt/elevation, and zoom/focus. Unlike the previous news studio however the cameras are NOT remotely controlled for position on the floor. (So they no longer move around like Daleks!)

For One/Six/Ten the floor manager will re-position the cameras on the studio floor if required, but this is only usually an issue when there is a sport presenter. (For Hardtalk one camera is often manned)

The remote aspects of the cameras are controlled by an operator in a separate operational area (though not the gallery) and the same operator also does lighting, and exposes/colour balances the cameras as well.

The studio used for Breakfast and Newsnight also has the same remote control capability for cameras, but because these shows require far more frequent and more rapid camera re-positions, some of the cameras are operated manually, by camera people stood behind them.

Yeah, thought so - thanks for that! There wouldn't be enough room in N6 for them to move around much!

Also, is it just me or have the broadcasts from N6 looked too bright occasionally over the past few days. It's just looked washed out - and it's not just my tv!

Yep - N6 is not exactly on the huge side with the UK Today and Nationals set both permanently installed. (And the projectors take up a lot of room)

Yes, I noticed that! The projectors are pretty big! Also, do they just swing the cameras around for UK Today? Or are they swung round before the end of the programme - hence cameras that aren't used towards the end of the Six.

Nope - same camera that ends most bulletins (no inset, newsroom backing) is remotely panned on its axis (no ped move required) to shoot the UK Today CSO position.

Not a problem at any junction - 1330 and 1830 have junctions between Nationals and UK Today - 1525 and 2225 bulletins are recorded.

Right - I suppose the quickest turn-around (quite literally!) must be when they go from regional back to national update at 6.55.

Most of the turnarounds between camera shots are of the order of 45' - 1'30'.

And I suppose they just have time for that between the bulletin update start and end...

What are the projectors? (Now that might be a stupid question...)
