And so we enter TV Forum's Sky News vs News 24 debate for the hundredth time.
I don't hate News 24, it does have quality BBC journalism which isn't too tabloidy. But it's also very very tired looking now. Many elements of it's presentation package have been around for 4 years - the basic top of the hour titles have now been played over 1200 times. What they have changed has just been ill fitting tweaks which doesn't really work, like their new countdown sequence. The whole channel badly needs a complete overhaul. Sadly, the BBC News corporate look prevents it from making any serious departure from what it's like now (which I would argue is badly needed) but they could at least do something.
Sky News I think could do with a revamp, which I here it is getting later this year. The graphics are nice, but the saturated red doesn't work very well on many people's TV sets, and the graphics are all a bit too samey. I preferred it when there was a basic Sky News 'look', and then special programme strands were allowed to go their own way. It added a bit of prestige to these strands which is now sadly lacking with everything being exactly the same and no on air mention being made of them.
But, it's presentation in it's current form blows still blows News 24 out of the water.
I'd say that News 24 potentially has the better content, but it's present in a way which hides it and makes it look dull and uninspiring. That makes Sky News my preferred news channel at the moment.

The news sucks.
I like little news updates on cheesy shows that aim for people like me... RI:SE for example.
I though "Sunrise" on channel 5 was a breakfest show, turns out, its just ye olde boring sky news. *oh how dissapointing* (If you cant tell im being sarcastic)

Again - you're not the only culprit - and before I begin I do realise this is a TV Presentation forum, that I think content should be placed quite a bit above presentation. I agree with your points, but surely 'who provides the best news' doesn't have to have anything to do with colour schemes?
My 2 cents - I prefer Sky News. Whilst many will argue breaking news is unconfirmed, often false etc. it gets you involved with the story, and whilst the Hutton Inquiry recreations were quite surreal - the simple fact is they're doing more than many other broadcasters.
N24 is stiff (sick) - presenters look like they are being held at gunpoint, and I think a bit of banter might help things going.
