I was actually quite pleasantly surprised by News Knight - and how true was the comment about Bernard Manning.

It wasn't up to HIGNFY 's high standards, but I can see it improving. The few unscripted one-liners Sir Trev delivered were brilliant.

But it's no secret that Manning was racist and deserves every bit of flak he gets and then some.

Not that Bernard cared! Nor did his Indian neighbours, or Irish comedian friend Frank Carson, or the blacks who went to see him perform.... but that's a debate for the other thread Wink

Anyway, back on piste... I didn't think it was too bad actually, considering the off-putting trailers for it. I don't think Sir Trevor did a bad job, and Clive Anderson was well worth his money as usual.

I think such a programme would have been better with somebody like John Sergeant; who has more of a personality suited for such a show, plus the news background.

It was Tonight with Fiona Foster tonight. Has Trev been sidelined to further his comedy career ?

For anyone who watched it, I do the job that the guy from Devon & Cornwall Police that was on it used to do... in Lincolnshire.

The programme was about how easy it is to change your identity, and the advantages that might have for a criminal, including potentially gettting a clean CRB Disclosure in your new name.

It featured the case (which had nothing to do with the CRB process) of a woman in Lincolnshire whose daughter was murdered by someone who had a long list of previous convictions, and had been in contact with the police on three occasions prior to the murder, even calling the police to say he "found a body", all under a different name. Though they did point out that Lincolnshire Police said that had checks been carried out on him it wouldn't necessarily have stopped him commiting this murder anyway.

Thanks for that

No they're not. Trev is only only the programme for a total of about 4 minutes.

Well given that Manning has based his entire career on that kind of humour, I'm sure he would have found the remark highly amusing.

Certainly not something to get offended by on his behalf.

The irony of such a question from somebody named after Alf Garnett is amusing.
