Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Sky News and BBC News 24 but, after spending the past four days in an office with N24 or Sky always on in the background, I've started to notice that they're both actually quite cheesy. For example, a presenter on N24 was doing an interview about Northern Ireland this morning, and she used a really dodgy cliche that went something along the lines of 'so, we're standing on the edge of an abyss'. Later Paula Middlehurst used another cheesy line whilst doing an interview on the Jerusalem bomb (and even introduced it with the line: 'to use a well-worn cliche...'!). That was shortly after someone walked in front of the camera!
And I have to say that Sky's use of Breaking News captions is a bit excessive. I've never really noticed this before, but practically every new story that comes in is announced as Breaking News! Or maybe that's the idea...
Still, I do think they're both excellent but, with them on all day, I think I'm getting news overload!
