I've aways wondered, how much do the newscasters on Sky News, ITN News Channel and News 24 etc get paid? is it less or the same as news casters on mainstream channels like BBC 1 and ITV?

I heard somewhere (I can't remember where) that normal BBC News presenters get paid some £60 for a 15 or 30 minute national broadcast. But whether this applies to regions like BBC LDN, UK Today, Breakfast and BBC News 24 is beyond me!

I think (and it is just think) that many of the main newsreaders are freelance rather than BBC and are just contracted so can get paid fluctuating amounts - but much more than a BBC salary as I'm sure the BBC bods on here will agree...

Indeed we heard a few months ago about the extortionate sums Emily Maitlis of BBC London News was rumoured to be getting paid for a regional programme.

Don't forget the crazy demands that she ordered... eg) Camera always pointing down at her and such. She must have an ego the size of Scotland. What a turn off. http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/cheesy.gif

Yeah but remember that £60 for a half hour bulletin makes £120/hour .. I'm on £5.65/hour - slight difference!!

Well the standard fee for a papers guest on News24 is about £100. So the main presenter will get a lot more than that.

I would guess, and it's a pure guess, that most prsenters get about £60,000 per year. Most presenters have agents who will sort out all the salary details. Some of the 'star performers' will get a lot more than their fellow presenters. Huw is probably on something between £200,000 and £300,000 per year

I was told on my TVC tour in the summer that weather forecasts are the cheapest programmes on the BBC costing around £60 per hour.

A little OT, but interesting none the less Wink

Peter.
