Has anyone seen that incredibly long advert for BBC News with the Berlin wall - it is so boring, and at the end, the thing says - BC News, pdated every minute - it is shown in 4:3 but is a widescreen advert - what is the point!!! - someone's head should roll- all that advert, for the whole point to be half off the screem !!!
Exactly! What has it got to do with BBC News Online?
I thought it was an advert for some history programme or something!

Yeah saw the ad - thought it could have been really effective if it had been done better! The idea of one minute making all the difference with news - hence their slogan, updated every minute of every day, is true and a good one at that. But, not sure about the ad.
And to transmit it in the wrong format! - maybe it was made for News24? Is it being shown there?

it has been broadcast at least five times on BBC One and some on BBC Two

I don't think I've seen this trail, but it was undoubtably made in widescreen for digital, where all BBC presentation is in 16:9, whereas analogue presentation is usually shown in 4:3 (except around regional programmes and within programmes like Breakfast).

BBC News Online didn't even exist in 1990 when the Berlin wall was knockec down! They could have recreated a recent event that News online has covered, such as new yeards eve 1999, or the death of Princess Diana.
I know we are slamming it, but I personally think it is a BBC gem. They seem to be good at doing things like this. I think the message '10.59: wall, 11:00: bridge' is very good at getting the message across.
How would they cover Diana without being distasteful? There's no way you could repeat the message in the advert
Presedent Clinton comes in
9.04 - politics
'I did not have sexual relations with that woman'
9.05 - scandal
it shows how fast the news mooves.
you couldn't do it with diana
3.05 - alive
3.06 - dead
would not go down well

Personally when I first saw those ads I thought they were really good - and I still do! If analogue BBC One/Two would start running trailers in 14:9 like ITV and C4 do, it would fit the screen better. I hate the size of 4:3 anyway!

Having seen it for a second time I am warming to it - it does convey the fact that news changes so quickly really well.... And, haven't heard the radio one but sounds really good too.
The BBC seem to be good at this sort of promo. The BBC News ones with all the correspondents talking (forget what it was called) was brilliant with that stirring music.... I say bring it back!
