Yes well a replacement for Heather McCarthy will be needed as I think she's sadly leaving on Christmas Eve to go back to Southampton.

On behalf of all her overnight fans and from everyone at youngjournalists.com: we'll miss you Heather! Wink

Yeap, very sad news about Heathers return to Southampton.
But the good news is that she's hinted she may pop back at some stage for a wee bit of overtime

Yes it is a shame, as she was very good on the Joint bulletins. Luckily I saw her last bulletin, during TWT this morning with George Eykyn. My Mum and Dad are that crazy they got up at 4am to go to Marks and Spencer to get the fresh Xmas food, so I watched TWT live for the first time! I can't really belive it - there are even more sad people in the world - M&S was packed at 5am!

Did you have to get up - I'd have stayed in bed!! Although parents do have a habit of making as much noise as possible...

Good news Heather may return... does anyone know what she is going to be doing back in Southampton?

They woke me up shutting the front door!! It also didn't help putting all the lights on upstairs!! I lay in bed until 5am and then decided to watch TWT for a bit! I really am hopeless at getting back to sleep once woken up!

Anyway back on topic...

So who will be filling Heather's space? Will it be Alastair Yates full time or will someone else be brought in full time? I hope it is a man, to even it out a bit - with already having Martine Croxall and Susan Osman. I wish they'd put Adrian Finighan on overnights full time - he did a couple a few months back, and he was great! Since Philip has left BBC World, I think Adrian is the best on the channel now.

Before Heather joined News 24/World to present the joint service, she was the launch presenter (I think) of the South Today Oxford opts. I would imagine she may get some main South Today's as well, standing in for Sally, now she has had so much live experience.

Does anyone know the 'stand-ins' for BBC World News? The only ones I know are George Eykyn, Brian Hanrahan and Peter Coe. For example, News 24's main ones are John Nicolson, Chris Eakin, Brenda Paterson, Deborah MacKenzie, Liz Pike, Stefanie Callister and there may be a few more, like Jon Kay and Mike Embley.

I have another question - whats happened to Fergus Nicoll - he did News 24 for several weeks on the run in the summer, and World while I was on holiday, but I've not seen nor heard him since. I remember him, as he used to start his bulletins by saying 'This is BBC News I'm Fergus Nicoll - a warm welcome to you'.

He went back to World Service Radio. I don't think he liked TV very much:(

I remember when he was on BBC World once, his earpiece was coming loose, and to try and disguise it, he turned his head so far, he was virtually facing 90 degrees from the camera. It was so funny!

Lucy Hockings filled in Heather's old slot on News 24 last night. Its nice to see her again, I love an Austrailian voice!

Yeah, Lucy's great! It must have been this time last year that I seen her last. But I think she has been doing BBC World for sometime! Well on BBC World today we had Jane Hill on until 1pm and now it's Peter Dobbie. I don't know who was on before Jane, but she was good!
