To be fair, those kind of mistakes are only to be expected when you have a channel with as much live output as N24. Sky have exactly the same problems; I noticed a problem with their astons this morning. They had both the big ticker-less aston and the smaller ticker-aware aston on screen at once.

My problems with N24 are purely down to how utterly awful their graphics are, not understandable mistakes like this.

God when are they going to sort out their appalling graphics. Absolutely nothing lines up, the clock doesn't line up with the LIVE graphic, the BREAKING NEWS text needs to be moved up and they need to stop putting the text on the screen over the reporters name.

And just when are they going to stop this pointless scrolling on and off BREAKING NEWS....... POWER CUTS thing. Pointless. Get it off.

I actually quite like this. Don't ask me why, I know it's pointless and distracting, but I just do. Even my mother, who takes no interest in TV pres at all, hates it, so I must just be quite strange. It's the awful big bold text used that irritates me, along with the aston taking up far more of the screen than it needs to.

Meanwhile, that headlines sequence at 12am was amusing Smile

Changing the subject for a second but...

Does anybody know why when News 24 has the world news a 9.30 when ever they have a info strap on screen rather than scrolling the next two lines of text, the strap disappears and then reappears?

Its always done it i just never remembered to ask!!!

That's just the way BBC World's gallery team do it - it happens on the news on BBC World too. I don't know exactly why - possibly to free up the screen when the aston is not needed? They only keep the text going if there is major breaking news - like last night's power cuts in the USA.

The World Gallery relies on the automation to run the Aston's. Columbus can't cope with changing on an Aston in vision, so it has to remove it, cue up the next one and then put it to air. For this reason there is a gap of 5" between Aston's.

News24 used to do it this way, but now all Aston's on clips are done manually, where it is possible to change them on in vision. News24 has a text producer to look after this during the day. Over night the director does it.

Fans of the World Set should be able to view it overnight for the next three months. Whether this means any changes to the set up on the main News24 set or not, well, I couldn't possibly comment Wink

Oh yes, I bet ya they will change the desk red, or maybe they will experiment with robots presenting BBC News 24! Laughing

I was doing some sketches of possible modifications to the N24 set (in order to further delay starting on my Politics essay... Wink ), and I thought that a new style desk could be used - but it wouldn't really work as one circular desk on its own (or even two), but rather having two small white circular desks (the style from the National News set) on either side of the set, with a curved wooden desk connecting the two. The white cylinders wouldn't be used at all, merely there for decoration - the large curved desk being the main focus.

I also thought it would be possible to remove that stupid black box they have up the back with the blue screens, as well as part of the red wall either side, and then put in rear projection screens like in the main National News set. There would be 3, with the central one displaying a BBC News logo on the usual BBC News pulses, and the other two either side displaying shots from the countdown sequence.

And ultimately, I think any cream remaining would have to be replaced with white - with the two columns either side of the studio being surrounded in the white frosted glass used for the white desks.

And I would love to create a mock of that, but because I can't do 3D - you'll all just have to suffice with the imagery of my words. Wink
