Well perhaps they SHOULD be showing images which convey more than words ever would?

Certainly the recent pictures from Monrovia tell more than a couple of sentences ever would.

And this is TELEVISION - if you just want words, why not pick up a newspaper or listen to the radio? A TV screen cluttered with text is a waste of the medium.

I don't JUST want words, as you say, I want words, graphics, and pictures to give me as much information as possible.

Television can provide all of these things, so surely its a waste of the medium to just provide one of them! If you want the nice totally clean video, which of course does have its place, watch main news bulletins like the 1,6 and 10. News 24 is there to provide information as quick and fully as possible.

There are certain times, say when new pictures come in or the pictures themselves are particularly good, when they do deserve due prominence, and in this case News 24 has the ability to shrink down their graphics to clock level and give you an almost clean view.

It's rare however - especially during breaking news - to have good video to show, and this is all news channels, not a failing of News 24.

Excuse me this thread has already fallen into a bitchefest and has recovered, DO NOT start it again. You have failed to contribute anything worthwhile to this read so please stop posting your idle insults to people in it.

Huh, what did you want me to do, start a new thread in The Lounge? The thread recovered only because the ticker actually appeared...

...and you could have just ignored my post anyway. Mad

I'd rather you just shut up, personally.

No - you can just stop scouring threads trying to post utter sh*te. (That's rich coming from me, with the picture and all).

Besides, Robert didn't see the original image as demonstrated by the removal of the updated cartoon one - that's what he thought people were complaining about.

Anyway, that all happened days ago so I don't see why you felt the need to bring it up again.

You could have PM'd Craig and refrained from posting AT ALL.

Back in topic. I think New24 just needs to shrink it's text down a tad. Dumb down on the Red. It's getting too much, Every new graphic seems to be red. They need to dull em down maybe introduce a bit of a gradient on some of this red. Personally it's not the way they tell me the news that puts me off... it's becoming the ever increasing presence of RED RED RED.

Red Location, Red Walls, PRESS RED, BREAKING NEWS RED, Ticker Red, LIVE RED, Clock Red, Carpet bloody red.... OMG!

There is too much red on News 24, and BBC World as well to an extent. It was much better when the astons on both channels were cream and purple - at least there was a break in the colour!

I think they should go back to the dark red. One of the only places this is used now is breaking news! Should be the other way around.

All places were bright red is used now go to dark red. Breaking news have a bright red top bar with a dark red tranlucent bottom bit.

I agree with the purple, they should bring it back. I'm not too keen on seeing white astons on the channel either.

As for BBC World I think I'd be rather more happy to see that red appear on the screen than what we have.

Also when they have the split screen in use that background is more orange than red - and I've always wondered why.

Perhaps they should return to the branding for inspiration. Maybe use the BBCi News type background for the split screen. Maybe get a bit of a fading globe and wave on the astons. Not too imposing but just enough to highlight the fact and get the point across. I may make some mocks actually. lol

Yes, the World version of red is easier on the eye than News 24's. The World red is darker, and the bright only used for breaking news. News 24 on the other hand, is far too bright and garish.

Rubbish!

I watch the news to find out what's going on - don't know about you! The more information they can chuck at me the better, so cover as much of the screen up as you like BBC.

As for you wanting to see the picture - why!

Rubbish yourself. If I wanted a screen full of text I'd go to Ceefax. It's a remarkable thing the television, it was designed to show us pictures you know, not obscure the screen with irrelevant text. That's why it tends to have the advantage over newspapers, teletext, and even the internet to some extent when bringing us news.
