It looks like someone has thought about the ticker clashing with some astons. I just watched the 1545 "tick" and as the ticker slid off it appeared that the background picture slid down or was un-squeezed slightly. I suspect that there is a small amount of DVEing of the background to lift the bottom of the picture up a bit?

The scrolling of the errant "." is a bit annoying though...

the little nudge up the screen has been there all along I believe. It was there last night anyways,

And now its just been announced theres been a power failure in the sports room!! Oh dear!

Well if both the studio and the sports set are unreliable theres not much point of having them at all!

With the sports room and its reporters plunged into darkness, N24 improvised by having Francis join Anna and Chris at the News Desk.

What a relief Wink

The ticker is actually automatically generated - no one actually types in the headlines. It takes a feed from the headlines from BBCi and turns them into what you see on screen.

Dosen't look good though, and the information ticker aston still has that annoying pause before the second line is typed out!!!!

Well, I was watching News 24 this afternoon, and I was surprised at just how much screen junk came up on the screen.

During a story about Liberia, we had the Breaking News aston at the bottom of the screen, with some scrolly typing, fair enough, then piled on top was the spinning phone aston which obscures a bit more of picture. (why doesn't that stop short of the other aston, why don't they line up). Then the right hand side of the screen was then obscured by the reporters photograph (why is that relevant) so we were left with 1/4 screen for picture. For goodness sake, this is not BBC Parliament on Freeview, just give me back my picture !!!! Rolling Eyes

Absolutely spot-on. It's that kind of thing which means the *presentation* gets in the way of the *content*. Making me switch over to Sky, I'm afraid Wink

Its not an optional ticker, it appears on the channel for all platforms, like on Fox News, but not permanently on screen

Rubbish!

I watch the news to find out what's going on - don't know about you! The more information they can chuck at me the better, so cover as much of the screen up as you like BBC.

As for you wanting to see the picture - why! At best it's a 20 second piece of film which is on a loop anyway, just to illustrate the story. The picture of the reporter usually only stays on screen for a few seconds, then gracefully slides down and up slides a map of where they are.

So, on screen, I have....

- the fact that it's breaking news - good
- text of what's going on - good
- images from the scene - good
- information about who's speaking - good
- the fact that they're on the phone - good
- a map of where they are - good

You'd rather have....

- a full screen looping bit of tape - eh!!!?

I know a picture speaks a thousand words, but a picture with captions speaks more!!!

Well most of the time with Sky, looping has nothing to do with it - its nearly always Live.

Exactly, a picture with captions say's far more. I mean it's all very well having a Live feed from some Iraqi town or something - but it's not very informative if all you see is people going about their daily lives in a quiet town is it.

Why would you honestly need to see something like that full screen.

Well perhaps they SHOULD be showing images which convey more than words ever would?

Certainly the recent pictures from Monrovia tell more than a couple of sentences ever would.

And this is TELEVISION - if you just want words, why not pick up a newspaper or listen to the radio? A TV screen cluttered with text is a waste of the medium.
