Can I just ask whether it is definitely confirmed a ticker is appearing, because the last I heard they said they wouldn't do it.

Otherwise I would just dismiss this along with the 99% of the other speculative comments made here.

Give it time and they’ll all sound like there’s a jet taking off in your house. Sad

I think news 24's agenda is perfectly fine as it is. However the Astons are vile ……

Totally agree, what are the BBC doing? They really should get some people outside the corporation to give their opinions on how News 24 looks and stop stupid ideas like this.
If they clutter the screen up anymore it will be hard to watch. They don’t really need a news ticker at all just perhaps at peak times and when there is a major story breaking.
They should copy the style of the ITV .

With the ITV news channel the ticker fits into the scale of the picture. More importantly it also suits the ITVNC because that has a less intense news presentation style, it adds to the viewer’s information and it’s more interesting than the presenter.

The BBC could f... up their news if they make it look like some of their other recent design creations.
I mean Breakfast is unwatchable with its colour clashing set and Astons. It reminds me of a colour blind test.
Whoever’s responsible for the screen designs and the studios for the BBC should use softer colours. Something easy to look at.

I’ll stick with N24 because of the quality of their news gathering and sensible presentation that is unless they make it look like a circus. If that happens I’ll turn down the brightness and treat it as radio!!

Rant over.

Some people think SKYnews is everything to me! This is the first time in a while I have made a comment about skynews Vs News 24, and it is perfectly in context of the discussions.

About a ticker... perfectly in context... *sigh*

Fine, if it's perfectly in context:

WATCH BBC NEWS 24 OR ELSE

Now.. back on topic... there were rumours a while back that this ticker would only appear during hardtalk and the other back of the hour programmes... I take this was only a rumour?

*wacky suggestion* What if News 24 were going to do this ticker in Newsroynd style, with it popping up little facts about the story instead of ticking the news.

Would seem to fit the Bill of BBC Newsness because having a ticker on N24 will make it seem more ITV Newsish,,,,,,urgh

Why Don't BBC News 24 use BBC World's astons, they look far more sensible then BBC News 24's animated astons, it would look good on BBC News 24 and World!

Also the *15 and *45 vamp, why is there no tag to end the music, it just fades out and straight into the sport, how boring is that!

I agree, I think News 24 should have a "UK SPORT" and "UK BUSINESS" sting Wink because the current package on bbc world is very versatile and sort of mixes together easily.

News 24 isn't the same though. Then headline is "thunderclappy", the titles have an elephant in them, and the coming up vamp is more "twinkly".

Tickers can be used really well during breaking news. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if N24 changed their breaking news graphics to just have BREAKING NEWS - BREAKING NEWS - BREAKING NEWS running along the bottom of the screen.

But then as a story develops it can be used for e.g. "coming up- live to the scene etc." which you don't want to put on the main aston as it doesn't really convey what has happened to a new viewer.

All I hope is that the new ticker is (a) not red (b) is accompanied by a 20% reduction in the size of the astons to ensure no increase in overall graphics size (c) used selectively.

That's true Laughing

BBC News 24 haven't even changed their theme music since they launched the corporate look in 1998!

Well this is BBC News 24 you are talking about, they are more likely to do the opposite!
