Any news on the ticker and when it's due to be launched?

To be quite honest I think this whole thread has been blown wildely out of context and the realms of normality.

To be honest all I want to do is watch News which is of a quality that deserves to be seen. I don't care who's stolen pres from who, who breaks news first, or how much internal and cross company bickering there is.

I think we as the public deserve to see News which is factually correct, so therefore I'd rather wait for the broadcasters to verify the information and make sure it's correct before broadcasting.

Therefore I watch BBC News 24. I can be safe in the knowledge when I watch them that the news they are broadcasting is correct, and not some we-heard-this-of-some-bloke-just-so-we-could-beat-the-BBC rubbish that can occasionally be sprouted from the Sky Machine.

The BBC can't win at the mo - if there viewing figures are lower than the competition (BBC4, BBC3 or News 24) then they are ridiculed by the Press (Daily Mail or any Murdoch Owned Press) but if the are higher than the competition (BBC1, BBC2 or CBeebies) then they are slagged off for being to commerical and taking advantage of their situation.

Sky need the BBC as much as the BBC need Sky. It's called competition, and what keeps channels from being a total waste of space...

Well said!

Totally agree. The point is really that we all like different things and although its OK to talk about the presentation of the channel when it turns into a I love/hate News 24 thread it gets really boring.

Yes, come on, this is stupid. How can anyone say BBC World is better than News 24? Tell me if i am wrong but my argument is simply that generally people watch the news for basically, well.... the news. People expect the content to be accurate and yes, presentation does help but know one really sits down and says,

"oh my!! look at them horrible graphics on that videophone link on the 1o'clock news, too much red and white"

Or more of a classic,

"Crikey............ The clock on News 24 is bigger, The live location is in the top left hand corner. Sh*t, what are we going to do?"

Sorry, anyway, hope i didn't upset anyone there, back to the ticker please, before c@t starts to display her medal collection on behalf of Sky News.

What, exactly, is the need for a ticker on News 24? I find them irritating and distracting myself, and I dislike the ITV News Channel because of their ticker.

I believe that all platforms N24 is broadcast on have digital text, so viewers can access the headlines virtually instantly anyway. So why have a ticker?

That's like saying all terrestrial channels give access to a Teletext type servce, so what is the need for the programmes?

Not on NTL we don't... and the ticker thing is just a rumour... lets see if they do start using one before we get too excited about it.... perhaps it'll be an optional extra for interactive viewers. No one here as actual confirmed that its happening, at least no one like NickyS.... let's just wait and see...

Er, no, it isn't.

To me, the BBCi bar's news bit is the equivalent to a ticker, but a ticker you can control and turn on and off. Teletext isn't the equivalent to video and sound.

Given that the inquiry has yet to consider any evidence, yet alone apportion any blame in the Kelly affair, it's a bit early to make judgements like this. Do the poll after the inquiry has published

But that's irrelevant. On the basis of what has been played out over the last few months, ie. the bickering between government and the BBC, their reputation is already tarnished to some extent, regardless of the findings of the enquiry.
