The BBC has an excellent reputation - or it did before this sexed up dossier scandal! No Sky is more popular because it's longer established, end of discussion.

BBC1 is more established than ITV. ITV gets more viewers. End of discussion.
hmmm
That phone thing was monstrous. I hope they all pull together nicely soon. It's terrifying that one of the main BBC channels have shuch shoddy pres and it's not just ugly today - it's shoddy and badly done.

PMSL - Oh, ok then! Thanks for bringing this debate to a startlingly analytical end. I wish I could be as clever as you, Mr Brainbox.
CNN is getting more viewers than Fox because CNN is older than Fox and so it must be better and that's it really and Fox is younger and nobody has heard of it so it must be doing worse and...
... no, hold on, that's not right, is it?
Fox is actually the youngest of the cable news networks in the United States. CNN is actually the oldest 24 hour television news network on the planet... and here's news, Digiturd, it's actually not got the highest ratings. Weird, eh?
See, the BBC, as you rightly point out, my friend, does have far more brand prestige than Sky News. Sort of destroying your own argument aren't you, little man? But let's carry on - so, the BBC has more brand prestige than Sky News, but less people watch it because er... Sky News has been doing 24 hour news for longer? No, that doesn't make sense either.
You going to have to explain this a little better, poppet, because at the moment you're being a bit silly.

Well said C@T... you are 100 per cent right, and Digiturd should quit the debate NOW!

2 more:
still-store full screen 'Coming Up later today', you can see... (PMQs, news conference, Bush speech etc etc) - copied from Sky News.
Aston/strap plugging LIVE event in a few minutes time over top of output - copied from Sky's 'News Alert'... strap.
News 24 said a few months ago, after they were condemned by a Parliamentary report, that they accepted they would have to differentiate themselves from the rest of the 24-hour news market...
However since then, as the above list from martinDTanderson and me shows, they have in fact aligned themselves even more closely with what SkyNews and ITN-NC are doing.
It is pathetic, and I don't know how News24 producers have the balls to pretend otherwise.

News 24 has stayed in the past and then stole ideas from other broadcasters...
Animated straps and OSG - Copied from Sky
Interactive Screens - Copied from Sky
Votes and Phone Ins - Copied from Sky
The upcoming permanent Ticker - Copied from ITV News Channel
(Who copied the Ticker from Sky News in Vote 2001 coverage)
Animated Icons on Straps - Copied from Sky News when they ditched the idea....

Too right - seems the BBC are keen to shout about how fab they can make News 24 and they're keen to innovate...but where is it!?
I did actually sit down and try to watch a few moments - the fact that Philip and Joanna are awful had nothing to do with the fact that I turned off...those that complain about graphics really need to take a look at the news agenda first - I don't know what it is about it but it's just...dull!
How can they expect it to do well against the excellent Sky News Today - which even the BBC luvvies must agree that it's an excellent format and certainly works very well. And Steve Dixon and Vivien Creegor are doing a smashing job this morning too. But better not go on else I may be accused of lining Murdoch's pockets or in favour of scrapping the licence fee or something.

It is dull, lifeless and dreary. What I find so disturbing Marcus is that an employee doesn't recognise that - with your attitude (seemingly thinking there's nothing wrong with it) it is never going to make the sort of progress the BBC so desperately want.

Is the black 'non breaking news' aston translucent now too?
I still can't see where they're going to put the ticker - and aren't convinced there's going to be one. On my widescreen telly the N24 clock is right at the bottom of the screen, anything under that I wouldn't see!

The Breaking News thingy is now transparent and looks much nicer. The colours are not as garish anymore - methinks it might have been designed to be transparent and that is why it looked so bad last night,

A couple of other tweaks,
the sport headlines at .15 run straight after the news headlines so they no longer say 'Now here's the sport with...' they just cross straight to them and also they seem to be putting the story aston and info straps up as soon as they start to talk about a story rather than waiting for an interview to start or whatever.
I'll be a bit disappointed if the only real changes are to be these tweaks. I tthought that they might be doing something really different but it seems that they are not. I will reserve full judgement till they make more changes and I can watch properly. I do hope that they really do mean what they say about making it stand-out from the other news channels but I'm not sure that they will.
