This would possibly explain why the appearance of the clock seems to have changed again, being tweaked to run alongside the ticker?
Also, this will require N24's graphics to be moved up to make room for the ticker, and the ticker will probably disappear along with the clock during trailer breaks and the weather, so it doesnt clash with other graphics.

why do they need one? The things are so **** and pointless. urgh.
On the subject on News 24 and their ever changing grahpics - why has the box changed again? The "Breaking The News" trail this morning has the
BBC NEWS
24
logo again (which is much nicer IMO - it actually looks professional)

Total garbage. News 24 doens't need a ticker, it needs a new set, graphics and sound score. They should be working on that first.

No it does not, Reiterate.
It drives me up the wall when I hear silly comments like that. Graphics and presentation DO NOT make a news channel. CNN looked sh-t for 18 years before it finally pulled its finger out and designed something decent for itself in 1998, but it smashed just about every other news network on the planet when it came to covering live events.
What News 24 needs is less of the formalities of BBC News, that's all. It would do perfectly well for itself if it wasn't so wrapped up in rules and guidelines.
A ticker won't do anything to enhance the channel's format, it won't make it any more interesting to watch. If they make a half decent attempt at it (like CNN and Sky when they put one up) rather than just endless lines of text, then it'll be remotely more useful than the nonsense that ITV, MSNBC and Fox plaster all over their pictures. But I still believe they are only worth using when you're covering one key event for a long period of time.
With just about every News 24 viewer being able to access News interactive, it seems ill thought out to say "let's put a ticker on the screen to keep viewers updated on what we aren't reporting this very minute".

I think news 24's agenda is perfectly fine as it is. However the astons are vile, and when you are watching on a 14" television it does make you want to switch over.
Presenter-wise News 24 has improved a lot in the past year; Phillip Hayton, Chris Eakin, Maxine Mawhinney, Jane Hill, Peter Dobbie, Chris Lowe, Gwenan Edwards are all perfectly fine.
However the music is stale and aging, its been in use for four years - except not just at 1,6 and 10 o clock like the national news, but at the top of every hour, every day. The channel needs a drastic refresh.

I'd agree with you - I prefer News 24's agenda over Sky and although their graphics are vile at least they don't make tavky noises like Sky's do.
News Alert - it read yesterday - Bob Hopes wife was going to give a little talk.
News 24's current report ended and the woman presenting said "Now straight over to LA where Bob Hope's wife is answering questions" and cut to her.
As for tickers. I don't see the point in the things at all. ITV's is dreadful. Sky's is wheeled out only on big occasions and as for the ticker on Fox. *shudder*

I don't see the point in tickers myself, they are very distracting indeed and I can't concentrate on both the ticker and the news.
I think they are useful in rolling news coverage and space should certainly be left to add one in when necessary. I think ITV should use their ticker during the adverts to display: "Coming next... Martin Bashir [itv] visit ITV.com/news" or something similar.
Tickers are generally unnecessary during normal news.

itv's ticker is a mess - it just keeps going on and on and on - it seems to have a whole story typed into it.
for a ticker to be effective, it displays headlines and just elaborates on the story a bit. sky's ticker was good when they had theirs a couple of months back.
i personally like tickers, because if you've just tuned in, you can quickly catch up with the headlines without waiting around for 15 minutes or loading up any active service etc.
well that's my 2p anyway

And this is after BBC News 24 officials said they would not adopt a ticker!!!
I would just like to say I find News 24 unwatchable, not just because of the graphics and set, although they are crap! But the style is sooooo boring and stuffy, it doesnt make me engage with the stories!
ITV News is better, but I can only watch it for 30mins at the most, because it feels like a news bulletin and not rolling or flowing. The music and set is outdated, and feels old.
SKYnews is my provider of choice. When there is nothing on I have it in the background and I could leave it on all day without getting bored. The presenters look like they are enthusiastic about the stories, and it feels like they are just as interested in the news as myself. During rolling news events SKYnews comes into its own, and is on constantly in my house.
If I want to catch up on the news, I would catch one of the main bulletins on SKYnews, or ITV News. The only BBC News I watch now is LDN for local news, London Tonight is just so boring in its approach...
