Well, I've finally seen one of the News 24 posters.
Black and white, large letters, very prominent.

'When the newsreader says its the end of the news, he's plain wrong. BBC News 24 - because the news never ends'.

I have to say that impressed though I was, I couldn't help but think of Chris Morris and The Day Today though (... the world is in fact square, because fact x importance = news.... game warden to the events rhino, etc.)

When I finally got to the concourse at Victoria station, apart from finding they were in the process of installing yet more bloody automatic ticket gates there, they have also installed a large electronic screen showing adverts and graphics from the ITN News Channel.

What I saw of it consisted of a series of graphics, News, Sport and Weather, with appropriate colour schemes, a headline at the bottom and a TV window on the right. I assume they produce 2 or 3 clips and these are send down an ADSL line or similar.

Anyone know any more about this arrangement? Do ITN get paid for providing this service, or do they actually own and pay for having the screen there, and also sell advertising on it.

A live feed of Sky or News 24 (with sound obviously) would be excellent...

The McDonald's at Marble Arch used to have TV screens showing Sky News! Don't think they still do, though.

Let's be honest when have you ever heard a newsreader say:

'that's the end of the news'

they might say...

'that's it for now, Peter Sissons is here at ten, but from the six o'clock news - good evening'

or...

'We'll have updates through the evening but for now from everyone here at the five news centre - bye, bye'

or....

'That's Channel 4 News from Sarah and from me goodnight.'

or even....

'That's all from Newsroom South East for now, now back to Huw with the national headlines.'

BUT NEVER IN MY LIFE HAVE I HEARD...

'That's the end of the news.'

Have you?

But you have to admit a poster reading 'when the newsreader says 'that's it for now, Peter Sissons is here at ten, but from the six o'clock news - good evening' he's plain wrong' doesn't have quite the same ring to it!

I presume that ITN are paying Railtrack, or whomever owns Victoria Station, for the screen to be used because it is essentially an advert, after all it says something about the channels and delivery systems it can be received upon at the bottom.

That's a fair point but it's just crap!

The ITN screen is not funed by ITN, the station approached ITN, it's not seen as an advert more of an information source.

Forum members who havn't seen this poster might want to see it themselves - if you have a digital camera, please could you get a photo of it and put it on the Forum?

That large screen's been up at Victoria Station since last year. I was expecting for them to show a live feed but all we bloody get is text based headlines and LOADS of adverts for Barclays.

Heres hoping for a better big screen soon..........

They have these all over the CityRail in Sydney Australia, mostly showing adverts but I think they occationally cut to Channel Nine news, but I think over there there is a small sign @ the bottom of them saying the name of the ad company, so it's not channel nine payin for it...

I don't see that there's a reason to be quite so rude with that comment

Remember what Peter Sissons said at the end of the final BBC News at Nine? It was something like (but not exactly) this:

'And that is, or rather that WAS the nine o'clock news. From Monday this programme will be on at ten o'clock......'

Grand Central Station in New York has Fox News showing on screens.
A hotel in New York even has CNN on in its lifts!

Frankfurt's main train station has a big screen (I remember seeing an F1 race on it a few years ago)

The Rockefeller Building in NYC has that giant screen attached to the side of it - displaying NBC.
IIRC, there are also ones around Wall Street with CNBC on.
