When BBC2 show ceefax, is it only on analogue or is it on digital as well?

Ceefax is now only shown pre-Learning Zone if (a) BBC1 stays up late or (b) if the gap is too small to show News 24 credibly, ie. 15 minutes or less. Excellent closedown by Matthew Jackson; but unusual for him to namecheck when the Learning Zone is running. Could he be going? Or worse - was it his last Ceefax interval?

Ive never actually seen a 90 second version live of both countdowns. The longest I have seen is 67 seconds of the old countdown.

I've seen an 87 after Breakfast one morning and an 88 one evening. Never seen a 90 though.

Breakfast seems to be finishing earlier these days - it always used to finish bang on 08:59:30, and so there was a 30 second countdown to the TOTH on News 24. Now, there is usually a 50 second countdown between Breakfast and N24. Is this because BBC One needs a few extra seconds?

I guess it's so they can fit in the National Lottery Daily Play result (is this lumped in with the others on Saturday? Must have about five sets of numbers to read out now!) Actually News 24 sometimes insert a trailer before 9 so you don't always get a long countdown.

Monday mornings they have four sets of numbers to read out; Wednesday three; Tuesday, Thursday and Friday just the Daily Play numbers.

So normally now when breakfast ends on BBC1 it goes:
Arrow continutity - Kilroy next
Arrow continuity - Lottery numbers
Arrow trailer or two
Arrow continuity - anno into Kilroy

I don't see why Breakfast has to finish early to accomodate all this. Surely it's no bit deal if Kilroy starts at 9:02 or 9:03.

I saw someone wearing a black t-shirt with Ceefax imprinted onto it yesterday! Regardless of the fact that some here see Ceefax as geeky and old fashioned, it does seem to have a bit of a cult following.

I want a Ceefax t-shirt too! Smile

ooh get me one. I'm going to miss ceefax when they change everything to that BBCi Text rubbish. The bizzare genius of Ceefax music is reason enough for it to continue

I've never seen the whole News24 countdown sequence before, and I love it - it just captures so much of what goes on in the world in 90 seconds. So simple, yet so effective. I hope it survives the relaunch.

You are going to get soooo much flak for being so positive about an aspect of News 24 in this forum. Wink

Well I think I'm probably big enough to take it. I like the channel, I like its journalism, I like its style, I like the presentation, I like its integrity. I don't like the current set or titles, but I do like the countdown. I don't like Amroliwala, but I do like most of the others.

Any "flak" is cordially invited - I have my views, others are fully entitled to theirs.

A very serious reply to a joking post there. Wink
Don't worry, there are plenty of us here who do like elements of BBC News, even if we want to put a rocket under them at times.

Sorry - maybe just a little overreaction there!
