Newcastle Evening Chronicle

Does anyone remember seeing an article in the Newcastle Chronicle at some point a week or so ago saying that Tyne Tees was awash with too many Scots and not enough Geordies?

Apparantly, the article in the 'vent your spleen' column said that the Scottish Weatherman and Scottish Sports Reporter (ie. Bob Johnson and Bryan Swanson) should "go back to where they came from" (although the language wasnt so tame!)

Surely this is a form or racism? Nothing can be done because it was in a 'readers opinion' section but oddly enough, the comments weren't attributed to anyone (unlike other posts on the page!!)

I make it a rule that I never read the Ronny Gill's "Vent Your Spleen" column - it has been a home to the racist, sexist, bigotted and vitriolic right-wing nutters ever since its inception...and because its anonymous the paper can get away with saying "nothing to do with us". These anon people have had a campaign against some on the most bizarre and benign targets of North East life - Mike Neville, Carol Malia and most recently they have all decided to despise The Baltic Museum...

BTW Bob Johnson is one of the most popular figures on Tyne Tees and the station has now got a very proffesional and large sports team (for a little ITV station)
