So what was everyones thoughts on the fireworks/ tv programmes going into midnight?

Thought the fireworks were great this year. So much better than last year! Music worked great this year too! Very Happy

BBC1's countdown as normal was good, usual couple of technical glitches, and obvioulsy a bit cheesey with the obligatary engagement! Laughing

One thing that annoys me it goes of so early, surely another 10/15 minutes with some music guests wouldn't hurt .

Poor effort from BBC One IMO. I'd of preferred a bigger show with guests, more of a countdown... obviously the special Graham Norton Show was meant to fill that gap, but I'm not sure. Even down to the choice of Jake Humphreys... odd.

ITV's schedule as usual was very understated, though I enjoyed "That Was 2010" (someone needs to bring that Bradby down a peg or two though! He's unbearable... Mad ).

(By the way, happy 2011 all!)

Yeah That was 2010 was pretty good.

As I've just put in the ITV News thread - Two thing that annoys me - why keep cutting to Juliet Bremmer telling how great the fireworks are - with the fireworks in the background and also why does it always cut of part though fireworks? Is there some sort of restriction in the BBC footage i.e not allowed to show it all ( don't think it's pooled is it?)

I always switch to BBC Scotland, they always put on a great show.

AFAIK the reason why ITV's coverage is poor in comparison is only the BBC have the rights to the full firework display and so also have the better camera positions.

It was so refreshing to have the music back.

The display itself was the best for many years, easily rivaling Sydney's.

Even down to the choice of Jake Humphreys... odd.

Odder than Nick Knowles?

Yeah I thought the music was great! I wasn't aware that there'd had music with it before - an ideas when that was?

Thanks I was trying to remember who normally presents it. Nick Knowles is always terrible and blabbles on over the fireworks.

I don't see what was odd about Jake Humphrey... someone's got to do it and why not him. At least they're not insisting that the presenter commentate on the fireworks these days

I for one was thankful that music artistes were excluded, it made the whole thing poor in the past imo.

Berlin was good as usual with Paul Potts and The Hoff at midnight.

Interesting setup on the iPlayer...

The BBC One programme is marked as not being available, but the BBC News Channel broadcast, which was an entirely different thing altogether, is available. Yet you play it, and it's the BBC One programme, complete with "Copyright MMXI".

If anyone that interested, you can look back at some of ITV, well Scottish television Hogmanay show made for the network, over the years, there are also clips from GTV and other stv shows...

It seems the 1978 show was also bolted along with a Grampain show that run though the bells
