Initial schedules now in - pretty much the same as usual.

BBC1 have Peter Pan Goes Wrong at 6.20pm on New Years Eve, then a fairly standard Saturday line up through to the usual Graham Norton NYE show, then Robbie Rocks Big Ben. Match of the Day is on BBC2 at 10pm, followed by the Hootenanny.

ITV's is a bit more interesting early evening at least - World of Sport Wrestling from 5-7pm then new series of Ninja Warrior and Take Me Out, then yet another Harry Potter film. The ITV News New Year Bongs gets a longer than usual slot - 11.30pm-12.15am.

C4 have Peter Cook & Dudley Moore: The Missing Sketches at 8pm then as usual show Alan Carr New Year Specstacular from 9-11.05pm, followed by a repeat of Googlebox 2016 sees them into 2017. C5 has Pulp Ficiton.

New Years Day sees EastEnders air for an hour at 7pm on BBC1, then Still Open All Hours at 8pm, Sherlock at 8.30pm and Mrs Browns Boys at 10pm, with MOTD2 at 11.05pm.

ITV have the debut of ITV Racing Live at 1pm, a Diversity special at 7pm, Corrie at 8pm and "Miranda meets Morecambe and Wise" from 8.30-10.30pm. No idea what that is all about. C5 also have "The Morecambe and Wise Story" from 7-9pm on NYD, followed by three hours of Ken Dodd, while C4 is mainly films but does include the return of Levison Wood with Walking the Americas at 8pm.

The Bank Holiday Monday is very much a standard Monday other than the inclusion of football with Final Score, Match of the Day and Football on 5.

'Peter Pan Goes Wrong' deserves a better slot than 6:20 on New Years Eve.

Please define "better" (i.e. with context)?

I've no idea what the target audience for that show would be (and/or who would be already-interested "fans" of it) etc, nor how their likely activities at that time/date do or don't tally with the particular scheduling decision that has been made.

Framing your statement with reference to those sorts of considerations would be rather more meaningful than a vague notion of "better" (which is inherently subjective anyway).

So bbc1 closes earlier in Scotland than the rest of the country? Seems like it should be the other way round really

STV may actually perform quite well around "the bells" (midnight for you English Wink ) Even though it's recorded, it's great to see STV recognising the north of the country - especially Dundee which is set for a great 2017. The Bay City Rollers show will make hilarious viewing for many drunken house parties!

All bets are off really on NYE - its a big night out but also a big night in and 6.20pm will catch those doing both. Agree though it does warrant a better slot on one of the Christmas holidays - it has the potential to appeal to a very wide audience.

A panto was a nice end to my Christmas, mind you. I watched Snow White with Su Polland on the 2nd of January last year. It was seasonal but they asked children about what they got for Christmas.

Having seen this production in yer actual theatre (rather than a sound stage at Pinewood - which is how it'll be seen on screen) I can vouch for the wide range of the audience at the perfomance I saw - talking 5 to 75 years of age and all points inbetween. And whilst there is a scene right at the end, which got the really young members of the audience, 'concerned' leading to Mum or Dad saying that "she's only acting and not really hurt", there are sight & verbal gags and visual slapstick that appeals to everyone.

6.20pm is the absolute best time to put that show on, to catch all viewing ages. Be interesting to see where they've cut 20 mins from as well, as the tv version runs to around 65mins, and the stage version came to just under 90mins.
