So with 23 hours left until 2010, anyone on here got any thoughts on programs from the past year and even since 2000!! Tonight BBC will have there usual coverage of the fireworks display in the capital and ITV are having a countdown with Al Stuart under ITV News rounding up the days news and looking back at the past year something that Piers Morgan did tonight. That will also head to Big Ben at midnight. So thats what happeneing on the two big ones this year.

Hope Everyone on here has a very happy new year and starts 2010 on a high Very Happy

As the ITV News countdown is on on till 12:05 compared to the BBC's 12:15 does that mean they won't show the fireworks ( or cut them off halfway through)? As much as I like Alastair , I won't be watching if it doen't have all the fireworks.

I also noticed that some tv guides are lisiting it "ITV News: Countdown to 2010 , whilst some are just listing it the general "ITV News" There've not even advertised it or mentioned it on ITV News! Both sure to get lots watching! They should have had what the've had for the last 2 years i.e Take That & Elton John at the 02!

As thoughtful as they were by ITV, the problem is no-one watched them, no matter what ITV put on New Years Eve, the BBC will beat them in the ratings. Although it's better than having ITV News appear just after 11.55pm.

For me, the best New Year show by a longshot is Jools Holland's Hootenanny on bbc2. Yes I know it's recorded a couple of weeks earlier but who cares? The sheer variety of artists and music always puts me in the right mood for seeing in the new year, a real "feelgood" show. Anyone who hasn't seen it before, I would highly recommend it!

I usually sky+ the fireworks on bbc1.

Happy New Year everyone Very Happy

Not sure about this year but in some previous years ITV haven't had the "rights" to show the full display that the Beeb show (yes, really), so that could be it. But essentially it's just a programme to get Big Ben on the air, combine that with the main news bulletin of the evening and throw in a review of the year while you're at it. Better than the old "Big Ben bongs" stuck in the middle of a film, and I imagine the O2 concerts are far too expensive for ITV to broadcast now compared to the viewers they get.

Unfortunately New Year is another example of when ITV make the effort, the BBC still win hands down with Kaplinsky/Klass, fireworks, Big Ben and no production values whatsoever.

This year though seems even lower key than ever - I thought at least one station would make more of an effort to mark the beginning of a new decade, but I guess after the Millennium ten years ago, a decade seems so insignificant.

Whose hosting the BBC1 show? I'm guessing Myleene Klass and Nick Knowles right?

Anyway, would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy New Year. 2009 has been once again a strange one and we've lost some major figures in the world of TV and sadly I don't mean Jordan and Peter.

Whatever you're doing to celebrate 2010.. Have a good one and here's to the forthcoming 10th year of TV Forum! Smile

It says Mylenne Klas in Radio Times, it's only half hour - a different arrangement to the last few years.

Anyway, why is this thread looking back at just the last '9 years'?

I don't know why, but I have a feeling ITV/ITN will have a camera in the belfry of the clock tower (Big Ben) tonight like they did in 2000 (apparently - I wasn't watching to see it).

Yes - a very dry address from the Russian president - and very edited pre-recorded scenes. At least the live view looked somewhat more celebratory.
