It was time for it to move on to bigger and better things...

There's a video on the Working Lunch website about the new look, sounds like there is a rather cheap remix of the theme too:

It's a shame they've re-recorded the theme music. The arrangement they had was the same one they've been using since the launch of the programme in 1994. I don't think the new one sounds as nice as the original. That means the longest serving current BBC news theme music is World Business Report. That's been in use since 1997. I can't think of any other theme that has lasted as long as that.

Is Dateline London still using the original 1997 music? (From when it launched as "Dateline London with Charles Wheeler")

Hmm, I didn't see it that early on but it's quite possible. The first time I saw it was in c.2000 and it has used the same music ever since.

It was still using the original music in 2000 - so I guess it is still using the original music now!

TBH, the new programme looks s***. The whole point of the old program was that it covered the world financial markets and how events there affected the consumer. The new programme looks like a magazine-format Don't Get Done, Get Dom - however, I'll give it a chance. I'm still not sure if I can forgive them for sending the fish down the Job Centre.
