What a fantastic ending to tonight's show, very happy for her. In the end the play along feature was quite fun. If this doesn't bring more viewers to the show then nothing will IMO.
It'll work for a while, putting real people back in the hotseat is definitely the way forward, as Chris Tarrent said in an interview this morning, with celebrities you know you'll never really get the million being won.
I think this will be the swansong though, there is only so far it can go. Seemed quite odd that ITV decided to promote what's on ITV2 + 3 tomorrow at 9pm when Millionaire will be on again with surely much of the same audience tuning in.
It just made the programme seem disappointing. Not only was her son not brought on but Chris Tarrent didn't end the programme by singing the theme tune either. It was all building up to this but it just didn't happen. It was a real anti-climax.

Why would it bring new viewers to the programme? People watching anyway may well go online and play along but I can hardly see people watching just because there is a very basic play along element. Avago, Challenge[TV], E4 and others have already done this but better. It's old hat now, brought back to the forefront of television executives minds by the success of The Million Pound Drop (which has very little to do with the online play-along game IMHO) and now every new format has some kind of play-along element tacked on.
I didn't exactly mean bring new viewers, I meant bringing back some of the viewers who may have stopped watching the show. It was definitiely the most entertaining Millionaire has been for a while.
Yes I think this could be the swansong too - not bad to go out on.
I missed this tonight, have they sorted out the cue music for the first 2 questions and so on, as the last couple of Celebrity shows have been lacking the question music...

No, the music was lacking.
It was ok I suppose. The pacing was a bit better, and of course it's infinitely better that there are carry over contestants.
But this format is dependent on having half decent contestants, ones who know a bit, who are williing to take risks and stand a chance of getting a decent way up the money ladder. The first two tonight were simply awful, and I'm bored of average contestants settling for a couple of grand. Given that there must be some kind of selection process, I wish they'd get more knowledgeable contestants to participate.
Oh and the 2 screenings of the phone-in-competition in quick succession was unnecessary.
Just reminded me Millionaire did a text in the answer to the question at one point in the past, linked to the viewer prize. (Basically the viewer answered the same question as the contestant for the chance to win the prize money IIRC).
For me there wasn't enough to justify the 'Live' element of the show. Chris mentioned a couple of random statistics but nothing compared to the Million Pound Drop.
On a similar note, did the Weakest Link ever have any 'live' episodes?

There is an element of tactical play that could be used by a contestant who gets to say, the question for 75k at 9:50pm or so. If they don't know the answer, they can just deliberate over the question for 5 minutes waiting for the klaxon to sound thus in effect granting them an additional free 'switch' lifeline (As they have to dump the question before the next show as Chris mentioned due to the fact the contestant presumably has access to the 'outside world' between shows).

I very much doubt the production company would let the play, play the game like that.

In recent celeb specials a viewer could win half the money.

I'm pretty sure they didn't. I think there might have been an unbroadcast tour round the country though. Shows like DOND and Millionaire can adapt and live can add something to them if done successfully. Weakest Link no so much.
