To do it well, they'd most probably need to do a million pound drop idea of having a series & dropping the celebrities randomly into odd episodes so that like original millionaire, normal folk can roll over to the next shows. Maybe they should try going back to the 30 minute format or air it daily for a couple of weeks to see if it helps.
I'm in favour of the axe. Painful to see every last drop of life rung out of it. Time for something new.
I hear Carol Vorderman has a new live Saturday night ITV1 quiz show starting soon.
Anyone know if the regular series this summer will be weekly or stripped?
I've said for ages they should adopt the Hotseat format and film loads of 30 minute episodes which can be put into the schedule as and when required - surely they'd do better on Wednesdays at 7.30pm than The Unforgettable... or in the 6.30pm slot on Bank Holidays.
I also think they should do the same with Family Fortunes - churn them out and have them in the locker to fill awkward slots. Unfortunately though ITV especially seem to like to stretch everything out to an hour nowadays - indeed can't even think of the last 30-minute gameshow (other than The Krypton Factor revival) they did.

It's not just ITV who do that though.
I imagine the last ITV gameshows to do that would have been The Price is Right and the Supermarket Sweep revival. However they did turn The Price is Right into an hour long affair in the end.
There's another special WWTBAM on Sunday before the Britain's Got Talent Live Semi Finals. Oddly though, it's only 45 minutes long and features quite a number of BGT celebs. Unsure if it is live? How come it is only 45 minutes long? With all the time they normally waste, how will they be able to fit everyone into the show?? It is most intriguing... I cannot remmeber a WWTBAM show being 45 minutes before...
Wasn't Millionaire sometimes only 30 minutes when it first launched?
Yep first 2 or 3 series were 30 minutes in length and stripped nightly for a fortnight.

That's right - but I cannot think of a 45 minute episode before.
That episode was awful. Poor execution of music (as usual), ruining the drama, coupled with remarkably easy questions and ridiculously thick contestants. The show should be axed.

NO. THE DECISION AS TO WHETHER IT SHOULD BE AXED SHOULD PURELY BE DOWN TO RATINGS. NOT WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT.
Only saw the last few minutes last night but giving away half the prize money to some random and only giving contestants enough time for 4-5 questions is awful, awful, awful.
The clock really doesn't work either. I was thinking actually about the whole Voice v X Factor thing and how in a way it's similar to Mastermind v Millionaire. The first is more formal and attracts the more intelligent, but the second attracted the audiences as it allowed contestants personalities to shine. The clock format doesn't do that - it has just become one big rush job and though I can understand having the clock for live episodes, it's not really necessary for pre-recorded show. Also don't like how the clock starts before the answers are revealed - Million Pound Drop do it much better where it just starts quietly in the backgroud after all the answers and the question is revealed - and it only becomes a factor really in the last 15-20 seconds. With Millionaire it's arguably more prominent than the question itself.

Errr, calm down. I'm more than free to express my belief in the programme reaching its end without receiving abuse. I think the X Factor should be axed due to its exploitative manner; again an opinion I am more than entitled to express.
I agree with your opinions on the clock Brekkie. The Americans dealt with it much better; Meredith took her time to reveal the answers compared to Chris rushing it, as you said resulting in the clock being more important than the difficulty of the question. 30 seconds is quite long, but most contestants answer unnecessarily in the first ten seconds if they know it.
The thing is though, for live shows, the clock is quite necessary to speed the contestants along. Often when we hit the £75,000, they take ages and waste time. Perhaps a 45 second clock would be appropriate for that section of the show.

I think the Meredith Vieira version with the clock was done perfectly, and even it was a 30 minute show they managed to get 2 contestants on, have 3 commercial breaks and it didn't even looked rushed or as if they were running out of time.
New WWTBAM returns on Monday with 'The People Play'. Basically, it's normal contestants playing and people can play online at home - just like The Million Pound Drop. I thought they would have done more than 3 shows and made more of a series out of it. I guess the show will be littered with references to players playing online - such as "gooberboy39 is the top scoring player in the Granada area" or something like that. Hopefully, this will not slow the pace down.
I do hope they use the correct musical cues, using the full arrangement of music during the questions and Questions 1-2 etc - as they haven't done this since the Live editions started at Christmas 2010. And also, turn the volume of the ticking clock up - the recent repeats on Challenge highlight that the clock was much louder in these editions that the recent Live shows - much more suspense etc.
Anyway, let's hope WWTBAM is back on form!
Also, what would happen if someone was one question away from winning the million and they ran out of time on the last show? Would they carry on and delay the news? This seems more sensible than just ending the show, esp as they were so close to the winning line.
