I'm inclined to agree that having The Bill at such times isn't going to attract many viewers, a daytime slot 11-4 would be more appropriate in my opinion.
Well they're obvious putting things they believe will attract more viewers and better reflect the direction and brand of the channel at the times you mention.
Is there any news yet on the EPG position on Sky, Virgin etc?
There's no mention on the UKTV website, other than about it being on Freeview 20.
I know they've confirmed it's going to be on sky from launch, but everytime people mention vrigin there a bit cloak and dagger about it stating that there'll be an announcement soon. But I'm very surprised they haven't said what channel number for sky, my guess it'll go on 133 with GOLD+1 moving elsewhere.
Is this channel then essentially going to use the stream on Freeview the BBC have been using for "302" for the last couple of weeks?
No it's using the Dave Ja Vu stream.
Dave Ja Vu was only promoted as temporary on DTT, as of tomorrow it's going back to night time only hours, I believe sharing with Drama after closes down.
It's good to see UKTV are continuing to invest in and drive the Freeview platform. They were there right from the beginning with UK History (and a few months later UK BrightIdeas) and, behind Channel 4, they have arguably added the most value to the platform since.
This was a feature-length episode that marked the new-look The Bill with a return to the one-hour format and an updated theme tune and credits. This episode began a long-running storyline that would culminate two years later in The Trial of Eddie Santini.

They are certainly the biggest player outside the main terrestrials and have quite a nice diverse Freeview portfolio. It would be interesting to know whether their pay-TV or FTA channels bring in the most revenue.
