I've not read the article yet but I've got a very strong feeling it may involve the words 'standing up'.
I can't understand how they can be losing to ITN (even though they actually are), ITN on ITV have just gon downhill of late, it's pathetic now.

Standing is a new craze in the news, ok not for channel 5 but still!
Sky had the 9 o'clock anchor standing up and the US networks seem to have followed suit.

If it is true I'd expect them to be wandering about the newsroom.
Interesting to see the BBC going all modern on us in terms of news delivery!

I seriously hope 60 seconds is not the future! God forbid we all get our news in 60 seconds and end up knowing nothing!

Right, just read the article. Sounds promising if a little Americanised.

Fox News have a very interesting story on this actually:

Should be interesting whatever happens.

There's a whole bunch of regional stations in Canada that do the news standing up... what's worse is that the reports that are broadcasted ALL have crazy camera shots that make the viewer go Shocked. If any Americans are reading this thread (alekf - hi!), are they any local stations that are doing the whole 'walking-whilst-reading' thing?

Hmm interesting, anyway heres a quote from Ananova from last week.
Quote:
Elizabeth's eviction from the Big Brother house drew in 5.1 million - 27% of viewers - at 10pm, beating BBC's 10 O'Clock News by one million viewers and ITV's News At Ten by 1.7 million, Media Guardian reports.

So from that we can conclude that the BBC beat ITV by 700,000 whether that is usual I don't know but its the only stat i've seen on the matter for a while.

It's funny that, as 'doing it standing up' is becoming increasinly fashionable, ITV tried it out for a little while on the Evening News (after the ad break), but ditched it relatively quickly. Personally, I quite liked this, but others obviously didn't!

The first news programme that was presented mostly standing up was NBC Nightly News. Brokaw's been standing up for about, maybe, three years now (but eh does sit down sometimes) -- I think MSNBC followed suit in the summer of 2000 with their, now defunct, 'Homepage' programme. They stood up all the time during the election (from what I've heard). There sitting down more on MSNBC though. FNC's anchors don't stand up very much, their studio is too small I think - but as the Fox News article said, Shepherd Smith on the Fox Report stands up in the beginning of the show. CNN's presenters stand up a lot now. CNN Live Today's presenters stand up for most of the two-hour programme, and the weekend CNN Saturday presenters frequently stand up. Whatever. It actually doesn't bother me much, I guess you feel a little closer to the presenters, and it does have a more 'on edge' feel.

It sounds cool what the beeb is doing with the daytime summaries. The titles should still be corporate and all that. I don't know about the Ten O'Clock News though. I think that it should be really professional. The presenters should stay sit down though, that would be too much. I don't think they should change the music either. Maybe a lighter set, but they purposely made all of the news programmes' titles the same. I hope they don't put all of that stuff, like they do on 60 Seconds, on the Ten -- that would be really annoying to look at for a half-hour.

If they're going to have the presenters standing up, I think they need to have a set specially constructed for it - like NBC News, 60 seconds etc. I was watching CNN Tonight the other weekend and, for the first part of the programme, the presenter was standing in front of the desk, behind the cameras. It looked a bit strange (a bit like a 'behind the scenes' programme).

Calendar News in YTV Region stand up for the 'Coming up whenever ITV can fit us in' bit. (well they don't say that, but it's what they probably feel)
They stand up and say all that. Personally, I like presenters standing up. It's always been said that standing up while talking is more polite. What gets me is, if they do stand up - why don't they have a high table column type thing, to put thier script on. Like a contestant stand

I like standing up while talking,
sorry!

I take it that these new morning summaries (which I personally don't want - I do want the new theme, but I like the use of N6) will be presented by the presenter of the one o'clock news, i.e. Anna Ford or George Alagiah, or will they have their own team?

From what I've heard the new summaries in the morning and afternoon will use the same presenter but will be produced by the News24 Interactive team.

I believe the new daytime bulletins will start on Monday, 17 September with BBC News24 Interactive scheduled to launch the week after. This is also set to have the interactive updates, live debates, weather and other content... that's all I know!

Central News at Six (West) does a large part of its programme standing up in front of a chromakey screen which displays a fake studio.

Oh and from what I've heard they will still be in N6 but parts of N8 will be moved to accommodate a new desk for interactive stories from News24.

Not quite true.
There is going to be a merged team to produce summaries and Interactive ... but interactive isn't launched until later in the Autumn. Interactive is a co-prod with News 24 and Online
