and who exactly says teenagers aren't interested in the news?

If Kerplunksky did end up hosting this bulletin (which I hope to God won't happen) then perhaps she could entertain us after the bulletin with an Angela Rippon impersonation (kicks away the desk and starts dancing to A Well Swung Fanfare ). True, the Daily Mail would say it was dumbing down, but it'd be the best part of the bulletin (excluding the titles).

First reaction is, this could so easily be the DEF II (in all but name) Version 2 now with news.

I haven't got a clue where they'd best place it within the schedule but I wouldn't be surprised if this is no longer in the old evening slot. Channel 4 is currently far more teen-friendly than the other main channels IMO, so this may be the first serious competition it will face in this area in a long time.

One pres-related question though:
What are the chances of this new slot being introduced with more of the infamous Tagging idents? Laughing

I hope it is in the early evening slot. Sunday night early evening programming on BBC2 in particular is at the moment quite rubbish.

Ten years ago Grange Hill would have been ideal for this new teen strand. Relaunch it, get it back to where it was pre-2003 and it still could be.

If they have presenters on like T4 do- I think the obvious choice would actually be Angellica Bell because she was at CBBC for years and lots of teenagers of today grew up with her on kids TV

Angellica and Andrew Hayden-Smith would be a fab presenting combo. Just none of that Jake kid or the new screechy CBBC anchors. How about resurrecting Philippa Forrester and Toby Anstis for the occasion Smile

why do i get the feeling that it will be in the early evenings during the week. Thinking about it BBC loses Neighbours so effectively they have from about 530pm to 7pm.

I can see CBBC being moved to BBC2 (1515 to 1730) and then the new DEF II clone being shown from 1730 to 1900 - its a natural progression. This would then also clear BBC1 schedules for more Antique shows, Animal Park style shows etc....

Yeah, but going up against Simpsons, Hollyoaks on 4, Home & Away and presumably Neighbours in the same slot on 5 is surely a foolish move I would have thought...

It wouldn't surprise me if CBeebies/CBBC on One moves across to BBC2 in the afternoons. It tends to shift channel during the summer whenever there is a sporting event which gets shown on BBC1 (Olympics, World Cup, etc.). Since the CBeebies/CBBC channels launched with more having access to the channels it doesn't seem as necessarily to keep the afternoon slot on the 'main' terrestrial channel.

With the loss of Neighbours it would probably be a good opportunity for them to rearrange the schedules, and might be easier/better than finding one/two 25 minute programmes. Based on that assumption it would make sense to have the teen block following from 5:35-7pm. By finishing at 7pm it also means that they could promote whatever is coming up on BBC Three that evening which *might* interest the older teens.

It will certainly be difficult for the BBC. I think a lot of young people know where to turn for teen programming, and that's T4, or if you've got Digital, then E4. And in my opinion, they're the best options.

I still think there could have Malcolm in the middle repeated at 5.35pm

I don't think there is any chance of Natasha Kaplinsky hosting this bulletin. Someone from Newsround would be more likely

Or maybe they could use the 'newsbeat' brand and have Georgina Bowman host it
