Hello,

I am an American living in the states, however I love British comedies. Looking to expand my list of shows via suggestions. Here are ones I have seen:

The Mighty Boosh
Absolutely Fabulous
Mr. Bean
Monty Python
Benny Hill
Black Books
Spaced
Coupling
The Office
The IT Crowd
Gavin and Stacey
Friday Night Dinner
Extras
Lovesick
Family Tree
Toast of London
What we do in the Shadows

So I am looking for suggestions of shows that are in similar comedy veins. I will say Mighty Boosh was good, just a tad out there for me, and Lovesick, while I enjoyed, had a bit too much drama in it. Coupling, IT Crowd, Toast of London, and Friday Night Dinner I have seen multiple times and is the kind of humor I enjoy.

As for American shows I enjoy, that maybe there are equivalents in the UK to suggest:
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Seinfeld
Weeds
Veep
The League
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Workaholics

Appreciate any show suggestions in advance!

The Inbetweeners (stars the same actor as Adam from the Inbetweeners)

Father Ted (Irish cast and crew, but made for Channel 4)

An Idiot Abroad

Most Americans I have seen online like our panel shows such as Have I Got News For You, Mock the Week, QI, 8 out of 10 Cats, Etc. They are essentially comedy game shows but the points don't matter.

The Thick of It is the original British version of Veep.

Derry Girls is one of the best shows around at the moment, set in a Northern Ireland school in the 90s.

Also another Irish show is The Young Offenders - the title sums up the show.
Lynetwork, what and DeMarkay gave kudos

Some of the Pemberton/Shearsmith properties such as The League of Gentlemen, Phsychoville and Inside No.9 are well worth checking out.

As well as this, some of the sitcoms are a good watch with the likes of Only Fools and Horses, Open All Hours, Dad's Army and Not Going Out springing to mind.

I rather like Outnumbered (not the Fox News programme!). They were going to make an American version of it but for whatever reason it never happened. Was relatively successful by British standards, 35 episodes made. (cue the Simpsons joke, "Do Shut Up, England's longest-running series, with a total of seven episodes")

If you like Veep I'm surprised you haven't seen The Thick Of It, the UK original. Another vote for Derry Girls here too - another 90s-set comedy was Beautiful People but that may be a bit niche for some. Fleabag is a bit marmite but goes down well with the critics etc.

Any votes for Miranda?

White Gold (about double glazing salesmen in the 80s) and Cradle to Grave are another couple of nostalgia based comedies.

I really enjoyed Catastrophe , which is available on Amazon Prime in the States. It occasionally leans a bit towards comedy/drama as well, but it’ll still be worth a shot, I think. Smile

I would recommend Keeping Up Appearances and One Foot in the Grave (not as morbid as the title sounds) I watched both shows with my American friends when i visited them on both occasions. They loved Keeping Up Appearances, i showed them the pilot and then piece suite episode. They loved One Foot in the Grave as well. I showed them the episode where they're stuck on the motorway and waited for them to work out that the entire episode is going to be just them in the car.

I think their tastes are rather more current than that.

Ladhood is also very good.

Father Ted (Irish cast and crew, but made for Channel 4)

<pedant>Irish cast and writers, but otherwise British. It was made at The London Studios

Definately worth a watch, its a modern classic.

The big one at the moment, and it does seem to have a following in the states (despite its recent run on the CW network being dropped after one episode) is Taskmaster
