does anyone know anything about the a-z listings on the HD epg. my understanding (and my manual) tells me that all occurences of Teleshopping for example, should appear as one entry, until you select it, then you get each individual program on a second page.
I very much doubt it. I've yet to hear anyone on any forum successfully forcing a software update. In some cases I believe, if your box has received the new software but not activated it, you can actually end up deleting the cached new software, and delaying getting it.
The advice is always, you'll get it when you're supposed to get it, and not before. AIUI, it's only Thomson boxes which should have received it so far.

If your box has cached any new software, the way to activate is to give your box a mains power reboot. If after a re-boot it comes back with no change, then it hasn't got it yet.
It seems it's only a certain model of Thomson box that received it last night (the rarest HD box). And you'll know when you're about to get it, as you'll receive a guide in the post a few days before.
AIUI the reason it was delayed from Autumn to Spring was that the Beta testers noticed a major flaw... I believe that it was very difficult to see all scheduled recordings in one place - so difficult to see if you'd remembered to set a recording for something or not!
Apparently it is a bit slower on Thomson boxes than the newer Paces.
And if anyone has an Amstrad HD box - good luck. Apparently there is a worse design/implementation fault on them than the Pace box and alters picture quality...
So :
Thomson boxes - dodgy power supplies (exploding electrolytic caps)
Pace boxes - recall because of missing tiewraps that could cause disc connection problems
Amstrad boxes - dodgy HDMI picture quality
Hmm - not covering themselves in glory at the moment.
My Pace is one of those affected by the recall, which is a shame as it's been very reliable. I'd be very unhappy if they replace it with a Thomson or Amstrad. I do, however, hear good things about the Samsung.
