I suppose you could say that the current logo is plain and boring, it all depends on what they do with it, and with it being sky sports, they will do a lot with it.

They really need a new logo, this is the same except the Colours have been switched and the tags have their own seperate box again, ie [1] [2] [3] [Xtra] [News]

The same rectangle idea has been in use since 1998 and it's getting a little tired now, I never saw why they changed the 1998 version, that was probably their best set of logos and idents.

Anyone else think Sky are reusing the old Sky News logo, albeit without the curve between the boxes?
Apologies if I have missed this but does the refresh of Sky Sports News include a new look to the studio or just new graphics?

Won't be HD or 16:9 to start with but won't be coming off tape anymore so picture quality hould be improved

I take it as they're having a new logo, the graphics will probably change naturally.

Sky Sports News has moved into a temporary set, you can see this as the background is lower and there are now laptops on top of the desk. As well as the area below the background has changed from blue to white. So this suggests that SSN is getting a new set when it relaunches.

Are you sure this isn't the new look?

SSN doesn't really do complete new sets, it's usually just a few tweaks here and there

definately a temp set - it's the size of a shoebox, they have very visible laptops which take up half the screen, and you can see mini-microphones on the desk.

From the shots when they're interviewing a guest it looks like they're in the Football First set, so that's probably the big screen behind them showing the newsroom background.

SSN has had virtually the same set since launch, with just a few little tweaks, so it'll be interesting to see what they come up with.

I don't know about sets, but the graphics (the layout) has been similar to the current set since the screenshot above of Sky Sports .com TV -- a channel name I used to marvel at as a child without a computer or Sky!

Widescreen would certainly be a massive step for the channel to take, but possible as Sky ratchet up their sports coverage in the face of new competition? I would imagine Setanta Sports News will be 16:9...

I suspect they are simply tweaking the current set(eg.changing the Sky Sports logo in the background to the new one).I dont think SSN will get a new set for a year or two as Sky are currently building a new Sky Sports Centre.Prehaps thats when they will go w/s.

If the bods at UKTV hadn't come up with UKTVG2 some years later, I would have said it was the most silly channel name in the history of British television! Thankfully it reverted to Sky Sports News after a brief period.
