I'm not sure if this was a mistake in the aston, but Sky just had a two way with the Express's Julia Hartly-Brewer, and had her named as 'political editor', with no reference to the Express.

Has she joined Sky full-time, or could they just not fit enough words on the aston?

Good move if they have taken her on - she seems good on TV.

Good on TV, perhaps. Terribly politically biased though.

Actually I find her rather snotty and a bit of a bitch to be honest.

Yes, dare we have someone in TV News in the UK who has an opinion.

Tomorrow we'll end up like Fox if we do!

Perfect for Sky then!

I suspect the confusion is due to the two-line astons being used whilst the ticker is on the screen.

She's certainly not Sky's political editor - Mr Boulton might have something to say about that!

Julia Hartley-Brewer recently did a couple of weeks on the LBC 97.3 (London) breakfast show presenting with Henry Kelly.

That's quite possible actually. The convention on Sky is usually:

POLITICAL EDITOR
JULIA HARTLEY-BREWER
THE EXPRESS

The third line would not be present with a ticker.

That's Sky News' operative word. I'm surprised they haven't trademarked it!

I've just been watching Sky News on the Wellington Videowall , screen 7. Screen 7 is the default screen for news and documentary type programmes. Screens 1, 2 ,3, 4, 5 ,6, 8 are used to show hardcore donkey porn and videos of policemen beating up black people in a loop.

Now, I don't know how you can say that anything that Sky News reports as misleading. Like the Sky News Lord Hutton reconstructions, they seem to be trying to make news as accessable as possible.

Sure, Sky have problems with their captions, and sometimes what they are actually trying to say is unclear, but this isn't really down to lack of editorial skill, but rather a cramped graphics package.

Sky News is easily the most watchable UK news channel. We've already had the Sky News vs BBC News 24 discussion, but this is really quite a fruitless debate, because the question itself is faulty. I personally think the very few BBC News 24 fans that are out there are bitter at Sky News' overwhelming popularity in the establishment.

I also fail to see what is wrong with newscasters voicing their own opinions. Nothing that gets reported by any news organisations is completely impartial.

Take for instance the recent spate of bombings in the middle east again. We call it terrorism, they call it freedom fighting. We call the war on iraq freedom fighting, many iraqi's call it terrorism.

Indeed, I caught a certain Mark Longhurst today on Sky News voicing a quick opinion on a new single from Dido (I think it was Dido) as it came up on a Sky News Active plug. I often wonder if Mark and Kay think they're down the pub, the way they converse naturally together Smile

I imagine it cannot be too long before Sky establish a formal "Contributor" network of correspondents. The US broadcasters have been doing it for ages, and I'm surprised we've only just latched on.

Up until now it has been informal, but Sky seem to be taking it onto the next level - Michael Brown of the Independent, Hartley-Brewer of the Sunday Express, and so on.

You say she's political biased, and I assume you mean she's right wing (because having read your post, you seem the sort of tosser who thinks left-wing bias is OK, but right wing should be prevented... fine). Well, she politically edits the Sunday Express, prop. R. Desmond - mate of Tony's. As far as I can tell, her political affiliations do not lie with the Conservative party.

As for Adam Boulton going - well, he was going to a while ago, I read some suggestions he was wanting to go behind the scenes. Hartley-Brewer would be a fantastic occupant of the job if he were to go (and almost certainly a candidate for it).
