I dunno if this is the thread to mention it, but Paramount +1 has launched on channel 128.

not really Confused

For the record I still haven't received my first update. Pace box. Still waiting for the option to turn the automatic icon removal on in the menu.

Exact same situation here.

I hadn't heard anyone mentioned this feature before. In the example you have shown what would be the significance of the white highlighted programmes? Confused

I believe that they are programmes which have enhanced disability features - eg. narration or subtitles.

You can set this in the Language & Subtitles section of Services.

Hi all.

My parents have a Thomson SKY box installed (normal SKY not SKY +) and they heard about how the EPG has changed. I tried doing what someone said in the other thread in terms of pressing "back up" on the box itself whilst turning the box on and nothing seemed to happen.

Have I misread what has been put here, or are these type of SKY boxes not meant to have the new EPG? Any help would be greatfully appreciated.

Dan.

Heh.

By doing that, you've probably just delayed the time it takes to get the new EPG. Smile

You see, Sky boxes have two software memories, one contains the new software, and one the one that it's using now. When Sky send the signal for your box to switch, it will, and you'll be using the new software while the old memory is cleared.

By doing a forced download, you'll have downloaded the latest current software for your box, I.E not the new one, and it'll have overwritten the new software, you've now got to wait for your box to download the new software again. I don't know how long this takes.

Thanks for that, I've just tried it out!

I did notice yesterday at 10am when the new channels were added to the EPG, that the "message" feature was operational for about 20 mins. A small yellow envelope appeared on the search & scan banner, and when you pressed the yellow button about 6 messages appeared (all tests I presume, because they were just random letters).

Does anyone know when this feature is supposed to be properly enabled, and exactly what it is for? (Is it just for Sky to send messages to individual subscribers, or something more useful?) Confused

I always assumed it was something to do with the email service available through Sky active. I may be completely wrong though.

That was always my thought when I saw the message light on my first Digibox many years ago. But from what I could see yesterday it wasn't making you go on-line to read the messages.

When I pressed yellow, a box appeared above the S&S banner, which contained 3 columns (Subscriber, Subject & Date - IIRC). There was a caption saying "highlight message and press select" at the bottom of the box. Only 3 messages were shown at once, but there was a scroll bar on the right hand side to view the others.

I thought those Message things were just for decoration like the old Cable.

It could provide a useful way of alerting viewers to new functions on the Digibox. How many 'average' Sky customers realise you can now operate subtitles via the Help button for example? Unless you've pressed it by accident or are an ardent viewer of Channel 999, you won't know about it. A little pop-up message to let people know about such developments could be handy.

Maybe they've been testing the system ready to alert people of the big changes to the EPG coming soon.

Thanks all for your help regarding that! The Sky Box did turn itself off overnight recently, so I assume some sort of update did occur. However, when I checked the EPG it was still on the older version so I'm assuming at some point further updates overnight will follow.

My Amstrad digibox now has the ability to lobk channels etc. Still nothing on my Sky+ 160, but then again, my PIN won't work and I can't be bothered to make it work.

EDIT: With ability to get highlited programmes too
