Here they do it, for instance when there is a short sting for the round up of the days golf news, they switch the sky letters to white on the dark green flip-background.

It's now changed to a stacked version with the NFL shield and NFL written next to it.
The only reason I can think of that the NFL dog is the only single line variant is to make it easier to move around to avoid Fox/CBS/NBC logos. In the past aligning it left or right doesn’t always work and they have to shift it up or down occasionally too.
