New Sky channels: Crime, Comedy, Documentaries, Nature

Because what Sky offers 'on demand' from the Channel 5 network isn't the full My5 service that's available at My5.tv and via the app in various places (App Store, Google Play, PlayStation, Xbox, Freeview Play, Freesat, Virgin TV V6 etc).

Just goes to show that people just don't care anymore.

...that is, for changing things.

You can definitely tell Sky have a problem with colour palette choice

Sky News are likely to keep red (with black), as Sky Sports is (along with blue), but how many variations of red are we gonna get?

At the moment is:
Sky One & Two - light blue
Sky Witness - black
Sky Atlantic - dark blue
Sky Comedy - orange (stylised)
Sky Arts - mixed colour palette (stylised)
Sky Crime - yellow
Sky Documentaries - bright red
Sky Nature - green / grey with green inscriptions (according to the environment)
Sky History - grey / black (according to the environment)
Sky News - black + red
Sky Cinema - red
Sky Sports - blue + red

Even if it's not really a BIG problem, I'd prefer something like that, while keeping red prevalent, but not SO prevalent

Sky One & Two - light blue - it's a basic colour after all)
Sky Witness - black - it fits the channel
Sky Atlantic - dark blue - it fits the channel perfectly
Sky Comedy - orange (stylised) - see above
Sky Arts - mixed colour palette (stylised) -see above
Sky Crime - yellow - see above
Sky Documentaries - bright red - OK a bit overused, but it's OK, as I couldn't see another acceptable colour for the channel
Sky Nature - green - just keep the green all the time, no need to use the grey variant
Sky History - grey - just use the grey variant all the time
Sky News - black + red - I think
Sky Cinema - I think as long as the different shades of reds are used, it's OK. Purplish like Sky Movies would probably be too much
Sky Sports - try something different for God's sake though! I was thinking about an all blue logo, but I had realised Sky Atlantic had it.. so, probably "cyan" (someone should make a mock), different shades of it? Rejig the graphics a little bit, as they're fine

Well with Disney closing down their children's channels, that may seem more than likely... Although Sky does own a stake in the Nickelodeon channels.

Universal has its own channel in the US, but I doubt they'd care in the UK

I've recently done an audit of the current Sky typeface range, and it's honestly baffling how little they have / how all over the place it is.



As you can see in the "Text" area, they don't have all that much - simply Light to Bold, and just one italic.

So I thought to myself - "Why not have the lads do a new revision of everything?"

A new version of the Sky typeface, with more weights - Medium Italics, Bold Italics, that kind of thing - a display font maybe.

I see it as adding more pieces to the pie - resulting in a more "complete" Sky typeface.

A proper "condensed" weight would work too, in my opinion - one that actually looks like the Sky font, and doesn't look like a modified Trade Gothic.

I don't mean to diss Newlyn in any way, shape, or form - he's the creator of the entire Sky typeface range currently - logo, too - but rather, a suggestion that something be done about this whole thing.

I don't think it makes sense.

You also have to consider all the fonts (some custom and some generic) used for Sky Sports - then you have quite a wide mix.

I think some of those fonts are sample text from a PDF file
