...to give some context, this a country where one of the PSB digital offshoot channels got rebranded to not the very native "One" (the former Eins Festival channel).
Back to Sky One, under the former "Sky 1" branding, it was verbally referred to with the English name.

Yes and as I pointed out on page 35, they use the 2017 logo version , don't understand why they not standardise and directly switch to the latest logo version ?

I think Germans tend more towards the English language than Italians, we use quite a lot of "Anglizismen" as it is often regarded as sounding modern.

When they launched the channel last year, someone showed this trailer, which sounds odd as the V/O is in German until the name of the channel at the end.

So far two of the existing Sky One idents (Leaves and Dominoes) have been modified with the new logo. I think they'll probably just modify the old ones rather than make any new ones at this point, but you never know...

The sad thing is that the short-lived 2016-17 branding seen in the video above was quite possibly the best Sky1 branding there has been in recent times, as it just flowed together and worked so well (the 1 idents were very good), especially compared to both the current and previous looks Confused

Just spotted a new ident on Sky Crime. So it seems they added a third one to the bunch.

Why is the Sky History rebrand getting delayed as well? I get the new channels but a rebrand doesn't really make sense

Maybe they don't have the resources at the moment (i.e. sufficient staffing levels) to enable an effective and full rebrand to take place.

It's not just a rebrand of a channel. It's everything that goes with it as well, e.g. advertising, websites, social media, etc.

Yes - most broadcasters are working on their bare minimum staffing - and are one step away from Christmas 'change freeze' type stuff where you change nothing unless it's absolutely essential.

Even if people can work from home - co-ordinating a rebrand at this time is definitely non-essential.

Labour, Creatives stuck at home during what they can. Same situation at a lot of broadcasters including mine - it's more about keeping the ship afloat. A lot the swanky shoots have been cancelled.
