UK Gold 2 wasn't much of a channel, though - it was only came on at 6pm and simply timeshifted UK Gold's daytime schedule to the evening. Its predecessor UK Gold Classics might have been more interesting, but it got the chop after only about six months at a time that very few people had access to it anyway.

UK Gold should have remained two channels (UK Gold + Uk Gold 2), with possibly a +1 for each.

I believe UK Gold Classics only ran on Friday, Saturday and Sunday only I believe. As you say it closed when anyone barely noticed it’s existence.

The 'UK Gold Classics' and the restricted hours only lasted for 6 months, then it became a 7 day broadcast as UK Gold 2.

Although a controversial thought in mind, what about simply merging W and Gold? W, although previously named as the more logical, yet hard-to-Google name "Watch", essentially has become what more or less is considered just a Doctor Who re-run channel, with the occasional push for women's programming. When originally, the purpose of Watch was essentially recent archival programming mixed in with original produced programmes.
Why not simply try to relaunch the format of UK Gold and continually broadcast new commisions as time goes on so that the channel doesn't end up becoming a stale re-run channel like how W has been with Doctor Who? With the newly remerged channel, I feel like it could work, what with the new BritBox coming along I think with the new channel they could co-exist, maybe rebroadcast BritBox commisions once they have had their run.

I'm guessing you've not actually looked at the listings for W.
The schedule mainly consists of:
Emily Atack: Adulting
Stacey Dooley Sleeps Over
Emma Willis: Delivering Babies
Finding Joy
The Wedding Fixer
Sun, Sea and Brides to Be
My Dream Home
Renovate My Home
Property Brothers
Code Black
999 Rescue Squad
Inside the Ambulance
Great Ormond Street
Never Seen A Doctor
Tipping Point
It's completely incompatible with the sort of content on Gold.
Anyway, as this thread is supposed to be about Sky's new channels, not UKTV, this conversation should really be elsewhere.

Nope! Wouldn't work at all, they're two different audiences - and GOLD has a strong core audience.

Because single genre channels are the way these days. Gold is a comedy channel and has been for a long time. Chucking a load of non comedy shows on it dilutes that.
That's why W/Watch has always struggled, it can't be categorised and marketed easily

Quite. Multi-genre channels outside of the big 5 have never worked.

Yeah, that makes sense. Doctor Who, which I see is indeed no longer in the schedule, was probably being shown a lot as the rights were about to expire. It no longer needs to air reruns on linear TV at all, considering every episode from 2005's Rose to 2020's The Timeless Children are on BBC iPlayer without an expiry date. It certainly is no longer a show that would attract viewers to their non-Freeview channels for that reason - if they did air it again, it should be on Dave or Drama.
And now they have lost the lifestyle channels to Discovery, they want to use W more as a lifestyle channel I guess
