Hi everyone,

From 1st April, Sky has closed Sky Atlantic VIP.

This decision was taken due to a limited amount of shows which could be broadcast before the usual transmission date. Sky are exploring an alternative enhanced viewing reward which will include all Sky channels and taken steps to increase ticket allocations for unique experiences available with Sky VIP.

Check out the My Sky app where new rewards are coming up every week.

Must say I’m surprised Sky Comedy is launching on Virgin Media given it’ll have programmes that were previously exclusive to Sky Atlantic as they’re HBO productions. But they’re also about to show another new HBO production, Avenue 5 (made by Armando Iannucci), on Sky One. So it appears some HBO shows won’t be exclusive to Atlantic and Sky customers going forward?

Avenue 5 is co-produced with Sky so it has Sky Original branding - and I’m guessing now forms part of the British Comedy slate whose home is on Sky 1.

My guess has always been that comedy on Sky Atlantic has always been underserved and probably isn’t as much of a draw (or subscription driver) as the big powerhouse dramas like GOT and Chernobyl so adding them to a new, much broader skewing comedy channel might drive more engagement overall.

Yes, I probably posted this earlier in the thread but it does feel like comedy has felt a bit lost in the Sky Atlantic schedule.

I didn't realise Avenue 5 was a Sky/HBO co-production. I should have looked further than the Wikipedia page, as there's zero mention of Sky on there.

I think they must have boarded it late as I’m sure Sky Atlantic originally showed the trailer on their Twitter site - some weeks later it was Sky 1 and ‘Original’ branding.

Oh dear. Not a stellar start. Oddly, Parks & Rec and 30 Rock wouldn't exactly be suitable for daytime broadcast normally. So they are going to cut the show to ribbons and not give it a late night showing so people can see it unedited? Not a great start.

Also, if you have to resort to showing episodes in blocks of 2 and 3, it shows how little content you have and how thinly it is being spread to fill up a schedule. They could have shown lots of classic comedies from 70/80/90s during the daytime hours and left the more modern stuff for prime time.

Did Sky get all the seasons of Parks & Recreation in the end? I know it aired on BBC Four initially (first two seasons I think?) but I can't be sure whether Sky hoovered up the rest of them and the earlier seasons too.

It went to UKTV after BBC Four (can't remember if it was Gold or Dave). Presumably easy for Sky to get now as it was an NBC show.

Hopefully unedited versions will be available on-demand

Surely that depends on if it was actually made by NBC (or Universal) or not, or made by another production company.

It was Dave. I was patient and watched it all the way through via the BBC and Dave repeats (not bothered enough to seek it out otherwise). It tailed off pretty dramatically towards the end and I don’t ever feel like revisiting it to be honest, unlike its most closely related show The US Office, which should be seen more widely here than it is.

Practically all channels have double or triple bills in the daytime now, I’m not sure that’s a surprise.

I never understand why people always post the first day schedule of a new channel and then write it off based on that. You’re never going to be sitting there watching it all day.
