It basically says BBC Scotland could do better and that BBC Network should spend more in Scotland. Nobody's going to argue against either of these two statements even if you might defend BBC Scotland's existing output or argue that regional quotas are not the right way forward.

The trouble is the BBC's network programming from Scotland is generally **** -and isn't even programming from BBC Scotland at all. It's just a second rate BBC game show moved to Scotland to fudge the figures, and certainly of little benefit to the licence fee payer - or indeed the TV industry in Scotland.

It was commissioned by Alex Salmond, First Minster of Scotland. Are you absolving yourself of any decisions he makes?

That's like blaming you for the Iraq war because he's Prime Minister of Britain. Don't be ridiculous.

Only you Lancastrians can try and claim Manchester ( a city smaller than Sheffield, Leeds etc., but like to think it's bigger because it steals Salford, Trafford, Oldham, Bolton etc. populations to claim they are Greater Manchester) as a capital! We all know the capital is on the Eastern half of the Pennines!

I am originally from Bolton but hate being part of Greater Manchester or being associated with Manchester. But hey, I now live in Almere, Netherlands

BUT, Manchester, since the '96 IRA bombing, has proved to be a BIG city and many firts have happened in Manchester. Leeds, on the other hand is a decent city but just doesn't seems to have the same feel - even its town hall is a copy of Bolton's LOL Laughing

Joking apart.

What I was trying to say in Manchester, they have a successful "regional" TV station, whilst london and quite a few others down south have failed. Goes to show that us in the North and even further up in Scotland are different to southerners - even culturally speaking

Of course, Sheffield is bigger than both - Leeds tries to include Wetherby, Otley etc.

Incidentally, there was Gaelic commentary on the Scotland match tonight on Radio Nan Gahd... however you pronounce it... tonight. What an incredible waste of money. Gaelic is not Scotland's national language. Welsh may be in Wales, but there are numerous choices up here. People in Aberdeenshire still speak Doric. There's technically still Scots. The population of Old Kilpatrick speak Gaelic, and for some reason we're spending millions on them, and a dead language.

How can we be when everything that is so called English is actually Scottish?

Why should Scotland have their own channel when it was the British Government that gave the BBC the green light - British Governemnt was set up by the Scots and hence the BBC is basically Scottish. It should be us English wanting our own ENGLISH channel!

Sooner devolution happens, the sooner Scotland becomes bankrupt - me thinks!

You're a little out of touch. Devolution took place a decade ago.

You probably mean independence - but why let facts stop you churning out the same hoary old chestnuts?

Anyhoo - once you start paying taxes in the UK again you can moan as much as you like.

Can we stick to the topic properly, please?
