Looks like they've realised we'd like more than just Street images after today's update:
Red Though: A High Definition start to Red Dwarf

Interesting to read that there'll not only be no audience for the specials, ala Series VII, but there'll be no laughter track added afterwards either... Back to Earth is going all Xtended on us!

EDIT: Today on Rob's Twitter page it's been announced that Red Dwarf: Unplugged is to be "postponed" and over Easter there will instead be a 3rd episode of Back to Earth.

Well they are apparently already having talks about either more specials or a series, they're gonna see how Back to Earth is percieved and take it from there.

Breaking: Red Dwarf Unplugged (the Whose Dwarf Is It Anyway -type show) has been cancelled, and they're now apparently doing three "proper" episodes

It's all changed but it's like a mini series. We are now doing 3 brand new eps, but no live unplugged show

I know it's sad news 'cos we were looking forward too, but time constraints and budget tightness have made it impossible

Ahh twitter confusion. Okay, we were going to do 2 new eps, 1 live show, 1 making of. Now we are doing 3 new eps and making of. More new eps

A bit of a shame but at least that means more filmed Dwarf Very Happy

I hope we do get another series TBH, nothing has really filled the void that Red Dwarf left IMO

Just to point out seeing I briefly mentioned it beforehand, they haven't cancelled the Unplugged special, just postponed it to later this year. So at least it's something to look forward to later on in 2009.

Hmm... that probably means they can spin off another DVD from the extra production material?

Not that I'd complain, more Dwarf on DVD is better than no Dwarf on DVD! People slated the Bodysnatcher Collection, but I thought the effort with extra materials was worth buying it for.

Today's the day anyways, Shepperton Studios will have the Red Dwarf set up and running for the first time in a decade. Ironically it's also 21 years today that Red Dwarf first hit our screens... you'd like to think that was a deliberate choice for studio booking, but I very much doubt it. Laughing

Usually you'd think when production is too hard-pressed, the result is a cutback of some sort...But time and budget constraints resulting in more Red Dwarf than was originally planned? What a result!

When this finally gets to air, I don't think I'll be keeping any expectations (for example regarding continuity with Series VIII, or what have you) - I just think it's great that the core cast are back together and filming something new.

Up until recently, I had just assumed nothing new in terms of actual on-set filming would ever come to fruition; that VIII was the absolute end, and if we were lucky we'd maybe just get a look-back / cast interview documentary and that'd be it.

Thank god I was wrong about that!

Right well seeing this managed to go quiet all of a sudden, I'll bring the thread up to date for all of the dwarfers out there still Laughing

I can't wait for this show to return but I'm surprised BBC2 never considered making it.
