Ouroboros was the episode where Lister finds out about his origin. He discovers that his father is himself and that Kristine Kochanski (who made her debut, albeit minus a Scottish accent) was his ex-girlfriend and his mum!

At the end of the episode Lister left the newly born baby version of himself in a cardboard box in the Aigburth Arms (the pub where he was found abandoned).

thanks for that,

I did see series 8 but I was also going through industrial tribunals for unfair dismissal at the same time so like I said I was a bit pre-occupied Sad

Yeah that was the whole Rimmer kicking Death in the goolies with the line "Not today matie, remember, only the good die young!" with Death [aka Ed Bye, current producer] falling to his knees saying "That's never, happened, before!"

Doubt you'd ever see that on Hyperdrive would you! Laughing

Would be interesting to see how the two shows will tie up that storyline as we saw the others go into the mirror world after Rimmer entered into it. Saying that, there was an alternative ending on the DVD where they managed to stop the ship dissolving and got control Red Dwarf again as the reborn crew all evacuated earlier.

Well it'll be that the alternate universe's ship wasn't 3 million years away, and therefore they get back to earth [with a hologramatic Rimmer along side them].

However the alternate earth has something wrong with it, and they end up leaving and getting back into the right dimension. Something along those lines anyway...

The look of the later series is brilliant as you say. Series 7 especially was so far ahead of its time. Single camera video looked really naff up until then, but Red Dwarf really kicked it up a notch. I think it looks better than Doctor Who does now! The brilliant lighting helped that. The only times it falters is when they use digital zoom, which they used a lot. On 1997 TVs with analogue reception you probably wouldn't have seen it, but on the DVDs it's really noticeable.

You can have all the fancy production, fantastic lighting and great ahead-of-their-time-better-than-Doctor-Who special fx - but what's bloody the point in a comedy show when it isn't funny?

Mutton dressed up as lamb.

It isn't technically a "comedy", it's a sitcom... which means it doesn't just cover comedy, it covers situations aswell. Series VII helped cover a lot of the background behind the show that previous series didn't cover. Plus it was an experimental ground for the technical side of the programme, which should be approved of really...

...next people will say VIII wasn't good enough, because Rimmer wasn't a hologram... they've said it over on Ganymede. How can that justify the quality of a series! They're even commenting on things like how Cat doesn't look "in character" for the 2 press images. Welcome to the world of the nit-picky sci-fi fan! Laughing

But the last season still wasn't funny! Situation COMEDY - it wasn't funny! Hear what I am saying!! Slick production means nothing on a situation COMEDY when you don't laugh ...

Well in my personal opinion it was still funny, as was VIII... perhaps not the strongest series no, but still funny. Takes all sorts of people to make a programme a success, and VII must've tickled enough funny bones to allow an 8th to appear. And the 8th has been appreciated enough to finally allow the specials to be born.

Perhaps this isn't you imparticular, but I do feel a lot of 'fans' just say the latter series weren't as good, just to blend in with the crowd. Laughing

I doubt the fanbase is ever going to fully agree with one another, but it just seems that most of the VII/VIII haters will never be as flexible minded as those who don't actually mind the last 2 outings.

I'm not going with any crowd - the last series was durge. Sorry.

And the reason the new specials are being born are nothing to do with the last two series - it's to do with the run as a whole.

Notice how Dave hardly ever repeats the last series... Take the hint.

Well the images themselves will be uploaded around noon today [being the wednesday update]... however the people making the RSS feeds have been a little eager!

So here is the link for you to keep checking, in hope they actually do something with it at 12!

Another set of "street exclusive images" it seems. Can't we get something different like a hi-res logo or on-set interview with the cast? We've seen half the street and Carbug as it is! Sigh...

I think we haven't seen anything else as they haven't started the proper filming yet.
