Wow, they bid for every package.

The next TV rights bidding round will be very interesting.

Why Hasn't virgin bidded for them? I be honest is there anything stopping Virgin & BT joining up to bid for all the packages?

They weren't keen on owning their own channels. I'd be surprised if they'd want to try and launch one dedicated to football.

When Virgin was NTL they did bid for the intial pay per view rights to the Premier League from the 2001-02 season, but they found that they couldn't afford them and the rights were sold to Sky, but ITV Digital also showed the games, albeit not under the Premiership Plus banner. And for those three seasons NTL only charged viewers an extra £10 per season to watch PP, those were the days. Cool

As said Virgin have offloaded their channels, so they seem more interested as a carrier, plus I guess it's seen as too risky, so good luck BT.... Rolling Eyes

Yep, Virgin Media aren't a content company any more, they're purely distribution

Exciting news if this comes off. 10 to 12 games per season would do nicely for ITV.

ITV certainly establishing itself as the home of free football.

It'll be a nice thing to put up on the wall next to their "ITV - the home of messing up live football" certificate they've already got Smile

There is still a lot of negatively people have for Adrian Chiles, although I'm a fan of him myself. I wonder if ITV might go after Lineker and whether their collection of rights might be enough to get him.

Totally denied in the final sentence and though ITV could well produce their coverage, there isn't a chance in hell BT would give them even one game.

Well 'BT Presents Live Premier League' on ITV, wouldn't be that much more surprising than ESPN showing free to air Premier League football.

I think the biggest stumbling box of this happening, other than the fact neither company might not be interested, is whether the contract between the Premier League and BT would allow it.
