If anybody noticed or cared that the hashtag had changed to #SoundsLikeFridayNight, the #SLFN hashtag was hijacked on Twitter by a student union who claimed to have paid £20,000 for Jason DeRulo to appear at a charity gig at the university and then refused to perform or refund the money.
@gregjames#SLFN you know Jason Derulo still owes my uni SU £20,000 for deciding not to perform? He kept the money we paid him to perform.
It appears that the TOTP brand will be used again for Christmas / New Year.
What an odd situation. It undermines any status that SLFN might have had as BBC One's flagship music show.
Why not just put TOTP to rest and make a clean break with the past? It's looked pitiful in recent years anyway, with that set made of glitter-painted cardboard cutouts in Elstree. If it actually felt at all like TOTP then at least its yearly resurrection would be justified by the novelty retro factor, but the shockingly bad graphics and set don't even have provenance to any era of TOTP branding.
Isn't the idea of the Christmas Top of the Pops to count down the chart of the year though? With charts being something that SLFN have said that they're not going to do?
Saying that, an edition of SLFN where current artists do their takes on Christmas classics would feel more suitable on Christmas Day IMO
Since when were broadcasters only allowed to have one show per genre? Imagine If all channels got rid of shows that were similar to other shows they've got!

It doesn't do anything to undermine it. BBC never said, as far as I'm aware that Sound's Like Friday Night was a replacement for TOTP. Top of the Pops Xmas is a tradition that has continued long after TOTP was axed and the New Year edition is a fun look back. It's the media who touted SLFN as the new TOTP, for which it is not.
It’s probably too early to replace the TOTP brand at Christmas with SLFN, if that is what will happen long-term. The show has only ran for one series and is not yet a proven success. If it does continue for more than a few series I wouldn’t be surprised then if SLFN specials were produced in addition to or as a replacement for the TOTP specials.
Of course the name wouldn’t be an issue if they wanted to use the format elsewhere and as had been said they’d brand it ‘Sounds Like Christmas Day’. If they wanted to replace the TOTP slot.
