Precisely - it's not really in its 'heyday' anymore, but I think sometimes, at least they kept the 2 in its same form, even if the colour scheme is too limiting. When this current branding 'era' of BBC TWO ends, I hope it is decided to build on that famous 90's ident style (same level of variety, special themed idents - although TBH the likelihood is low), or maybe even base it on the old short stings they used to use before trailers...
..but, at the very least, don't ditch the numerical 2!
The '2' only really became a character when those animated 2's shown before trailers were introduced, and think I'm correct in saying they weren't by Lambie-Nairn but a company called Artem. They also did the same with the BBC '1' logo. Now that was another missed opportunity they should have made the '1' the main logo they did so much with it at Christmas and then just ditched it. FOOLS!!
