TWO FINGERS: When Weather forecast comes on

Smile

Won't see that then - BBC TWO - doesn't do weather!

They use to up until the mid to late 90's. Can't remember the year of the crossover to BBC One.

how odd, i think i am right in saying that since the relaunch the 2 has always been 3d

You're quite right. It's like going back to the ninties Smile

I'll reserve judgement until I've seen them in action, I think - you can't judge with just stills.

And I will definately reserve judgement, especially if that end board becomes the standard for all trails.

There used to be a weather forecast after news night till a few years ago. And of course there's weather forecasts on Breakfast on Saturdays...

Pedant!

(only joking - I regard Breakfast as a N24 production carried on BBC TWO so Nerr Nerr!)

Yeah, there's a fair bit of the package that the Nations make much more use of than Network and that's a shame.

Just saw it after Talking Movies it's all right but nothing special. BBC TWO doesn't really do it for me as a channel anymore, everything about it seems so dull....apart from Top Gear!

...and Dead Ringers! I remember seeing something saying that BBC Two's viewers went much higher when the 1990 2's were introduced. I always say this but they should bring them back!

Indeed! I've said before that, IMO, the 90's 2's were great - They were the first idents that I really appreciated and paid attention to. It was only when I search for archive footage of them some time ago, I stumbled upon places such as these!

So, yes, bring them back - Ah, the nostalgia!

How could I forget Dead Ringers!! One of my favourites and Culshaw and Ravens are long overdue some BAFTA recognition. The problem with these new '2's is that because they have to have a yellow background, be white & be computer animated, there's not much room for creativity. The revamp of the '2' was the first of many rebranding disasters for British television channels. BBC1, ITV, Channel 4 and several others took good idents and ditched them, only now are they getting good again with the new Channel 4 idents, The Discovery Channel and the new Five idents being some of the standouts.

Precisely - it's not really in its 'heyday' anymore, but I think sometimes, at least they kept the 2 in its same form, even if the colour scheme is too limiting. When this current branding 'era' of BBC TWO ends, I hope it is decided to build on that famous 90's ident style (same level of variety, special themed idents - although TBH the likelihood is low), or maybe even base it on the old short stings they used to use before trailers...

..but, at the very least, don't ditch the numerical 2!
