Proper idents like the Golden bars, what was so wrong with that, am I just too old fashioned or something, but why cant designers come up with anything decent, they always have to have live action now!

The golden bars were live action! There was a real life human being in at leats one of them

They're not brilliant, but they're better than the previous set. So many people fail to understand UK Gold, it's not an archive channel and never really has been, it's always shown old programmes but has always shown fairly recent programmes, us movies and from time to time US programming.

These idents are probably about what I expected, we've certainly had better but people seem to be lacking inspiration these days, for a general entertainment channel - which UK Gold is - these are suitable.
Well I always UKTV Gold should represent the best of the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80's and 90s with programmes up to 2002, but clearly not Sad

But it was executed to perfection with beautiful music to accompany it!

When it launched 15 years ago it was the case that it showed programmes from the 80's back, but that format was abandoned a long long time ago.

Although it does still show the absolute best of archive programmes (Porridge, Dads Army, Fawlty Towers for example) newer stuff is fresh and more popular and therefore commercially successful.

The 'classic' archive programmes they show have been repeated many times as it is and there's only so many times you can show them, hence they have to show newer stuff.

Being the most popular pay-tv channel, they must be doing something right

We've had Digital TV now for about 2 years,

We first had the Phone from NTL and then The Internet - Broadband which came to 2 MB. And cost my family around £30 per month and then we decided to get TV Digital Box Set for an extra £10 per month, and now we've got 10 mb Broadband by Virgin Media and it's alltogether £45 to £50 per month. Which isn't bad really considering .

I love the UK TV Gold channel, especially with old comedy's on it from Only Fools and Horses to Drama's, Science Fiction.

I like the new format and the idents to UK TV Gold - Very good revamp in my books..

Many Thanks

I guess they are but I personally think they should rename the channel so the name actually represents what the channel has become.

I think that the new presentation is imaginative, they are executed well for what they are, though two questions, why do so many of them contain the robber followed by the cops, and why is the music the same ITV style grating piece of music in every single one?

Which'd be what? UKTV is a brandname and is unconnected with the programming and the "Gold" part in this case signifies what it considers the best of entertainment as mentioned previously so I don't see the necessity in changing its name.

You do though so pray tell, what'd you name it?

They have kept the golden bars for the promos you know. I dont like the new idents now that I am fully awake. I must have been half a sleep when I saw them for the first time and said they were good! I think they are total rubbish.

None of the last idents had golden bars in them, only the promos and break bumpers.

Also note, they are using the same recorded voiceovers.

Am I right in saying the golden bars have changed slightly? They sort of curve in (imitating the space hoppers I think) and they appear to be a lighter shade of gold.

On the naming front, well they have G2, why not just call Gold, G1?

On a different note, I found an old freebie brouchure that came free with the Sunday Mirror Newspaper promoting the launch of UK Gold in 1992. It also includes a weekly schedule when it all so different.
