Gold doesn't have to mean Old, I'm Alan Partridge, The Day Today, Porridge, Bottom. Not all of them are old, but they are all great!

Indeed, Gold doesn't mean old at all, UKTV don't market it as a channel showing old programmes and haven't for many many years.

Gold can mean many things, but it rarely pertains to history, except for a golden anniversary

Before the UKTV revamp, gold did mean old, and the channel was all the better for it as has been reflected in it's subsequent loss of audience share.

The revamp happened today before the second Neighbours of the day (7:00). It is all about bouncing balls. For the first time they have Break Bumpers that are used properly and they are not to long. The stripes have remained for promos except they are lighter in colour and curve onto the screen. The logo itself has remained the same.

UKTV Gold is the most watched Pay TV channel, so the change and brought in more new viewers than lost old.

The new shows are part of a £10 million investment off the back of UKTV Gold becoming the most watched channel in pay-TV homes.

That was almost 10 years ago. TV in 1997 was a diffrent world..... pre-digital!

As Dave says, their figures are very good. If there has been a loss of share since then it's to do with the increase in competition (including the split-off of G2) more than the programming

Anyone notice the 2 idents on that Media Guardian article are both in letterbox widescreen - could this be a clue everything is going to be changing to widescreen next week?

Don't assume anything, they'd be stupid not to make their idents in widescreen these days. I'd have thought that all their idents have been produced in 16:9 for several years now

Indeed. Going back as far as 1997, UKTV idents have been made in 16:9.

As I'm not at home at the moment - is UKTV Gold in widescreen now (I doubt it)?

Why on earth would a channel controller want to have their channel represented in this way? I didn't think on-screen identity could get much worse, but this really is the pits. Rubbish audio, rubbish visuals, rubbish concept. And £10M? 10 F'ing Million Pounds? Are they out of their minds? There's millions staving all over the world and UKTV think it's justifiable spending £10M on having people being filmed bouncing around on space hoppers. What is the world coming to?

I can't decide who I'm more angry with. The people who came up with this idea, the people who decided to charge £10M for it or UKTV for going along with it. I can hardly believe it.

Saw it briefly this morning and think it's ok. Certainly a vast improvement on what it replaced

Sounds like BBC2 got a bargain...

I mean honestly what sane person could of thought of this as a concept?

The person flogging these to UK Gold must of been wearing a stripey jumper and a mask.

It's encouraging for those who have their ideas trappled upon in the Mocks Forum that sh*te like this can get on TV. If design houses can get away with charging £10M for it, good luck to them.

Here's an idea I've just had for a new ident for UKTV Bright Ideas. There's a guy and he falls down a flight of stairs and breaks his legs. Concept? Sure, there's a concept. £10M please.
