And recently it's started showing US programmes. Oh dear, so I could technically ask the Advertising Standards Authority to investigate claims of deceptive advertising Laughing

Technically you couldn't as it rebrands itself as UStv Gold when showing those shows Wink

But it should then be assigned another channel number branded "USTV Gold" and timeshare with UK Gold.

What a ridiculous idea - it's just a bit of fun on UKTV's part!

Not that UKTV Gold shows 'Gold' programming - (unless BBC 1 stuff from 6 months ago is classed as 'Gold'........which I'm sure it is??? yeah right).

You see what you've done there.... you've not noticed the 'G' on the front of 'old' Laughing

'Gold' doesn't necessarily mean something from long ago, it means something of value: Something regarded as having great value or goodness: a heart of gold. http://www.answers.com/gold&r=67

Read the new look bit...aren't spacehoppers a bit reminiscent of the lords a leaping on BBC One's Christmas look in 1997?

Oddly, I was just going to say, Spacehoppers will be good if only for the 'fun-factor' that old UKTV Gold (and quite a few of the UKTV network idents for that matter)

But you can't help but think of two BBC One Xmas idents, the Ten Lords, and the Puddings (1997 and 2004 respectively), but I feel it's either going to be a bit like the former, or maybe shot in a different style altogether. Will look out for this one.

'The Generation Game' is the latest show to get the "Now & Then" treatment. Bruce will be hosting - more on MediaGuardian.

I wonder whether they'll relate to both of Brucie's original Gen Game eras (1970s with co-host Anthea; 1990s with co-host Rosemary) or just one or t'other?

I assume they'll not relate to non-Brucie eras (i.e. Grayson or Davidson), as it would seem a bit weird with Brucie doing the new bits.

All you have to do to describe UK Gold in its present state is look at Robert Williams's Des and Mick and DMTV Online to see the new channel proposals - even though the new channels page is now getting on for six years old, it still bears brilliant relevance.

On Friday, I heard the announcer saying after The Bill, "and that's the last time you can catch The Bill at 10am weekdays, as, form Monday, UKTV Gold unveils its new look". Obviously they meant schedule wise, but I wondered if it would include idents as well. It sound really good, and I look forward to it. I really like Gold, it shows a nice mix of programmes, especially some of the older comedies.

Bank Holiday Monday sounds an odd time to introduce the new look given that the Holiday Weekend starts on Friday. Either do it before (a la Sky Movies) or after (ie Tuesday 10 April)

I wish UKTV Gold was on Freeview 24-7, even as a pay per view channel. I use to watch it via Tits Up TV but dropped it when they dropped their hours.

The viking and hill idents look odd coming close to poor, I am expecting the 3 ribbons to appear at the end with the logo.

I know the new look isn't meant to be here until tomorrow, but I swear I saw what looked to be one of the new break bumpers just now...

Are there any preview stills or video lying about on the web? Didn't see any link within the DS article, unless I'm going blind of course...
